^^^ Partly true....Butt....Surely, as the people who sign the cheques which ultimately pay these guys wages and profits, we, each and every Council Tax payer in Shetland, have, or at least should make sure we have, the final say, if, in our collective opinion, we, who's money is being eaten by it, are satisfied with the standard or service and value for money provided.

All the council's collective brain power is capable of is ascertaining whether, in their opinion, adequate service standards and value for money are being provided. Whether the opinion of that collective council brain power is worth Mr Jack Schitt on this occasion is maybe more the focus of the complaints etc on this thread, than anything else. The council's collective brain power is there solely to (allegedly) ensure the "best interests" and "will" of the Shetland population are put in to practice as fully as is practicable. In this case, it is very much open to debate (elsewise this thread woud have died long since  ) if they are performing that role with any adequacy.

If the contractor is not reaching an acceptable standard I am sure that their contract wont be renewed.
It's not really a case of reaching an acceptable standard, it's reaching the standard, as all the specifications are detailed in very comprehensive documentation for each contract. It is these specifications that potential contractors base their tender submissions, and to a large degree, the council must accept the lowest price on the basis that the contractor will meet the standards

However, it's up to the SIC to decide whether to enforce penalties if a contractor doesn't meet the standard. In an worst case the SIC could, in theory, terminate a contract and re-tender

The SIC grasscutting contracts are usually put out to tender every four years, which could be considered as a long time to put up with sub standard work if a contractor is deemed as failing to meet specifications. That said, (IMHO) it would be unworkable to put the contracts out to tender on a more regular basis

going slightly offtopic.. but the SIC is basically Crap/rubbish/s**t/useless at chasing people that don't do work properly. You just have to look at all the district heating trenches around town.. South the contractor would be charged for any job they didn't replace to a satisfactory standard ( as Brian says, all shown to them at time of tender ) here there appears to be an attitude.. of ahh it's ok! we will just go in and fix it at the expense of the tax payer and repair it later.. we cant be upsetting the contractor now can we.. there there "Mr loaded that just went and bought himself a brand new yacht" contractor. :x

Anybody know a good grass cutting service. After my mother died last year ( She had some one see paid to do it) It was one of a few things that got over looked and was not cut last year. So the first cut will need some one with a strimmer. It's just your normal council house back garden a name and phone number would be helpful

Ahem....their site seems a tad sickly at present. Instead of pics of perfectly manicured lawns, you get this....

Great Success !

Apache is working on your cPanel® and WHM™ Server

If you can see this page, then the people who manage this server have installed cPanel and WebHost Manager (WHM) which use the Apache Web server software and the Apache Interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) successfully. They now have to add content to this directory and replace this placeholder page, or else point the server at their real content.

ATTENTION!

^^Minutes after getting that message on the Girsecuttin site I started getting an identical one when I tried coming here, the same problem as Claudias was having. Shetlink was impossible to access for me for the remainder of yesterday, when I tried coming in any other way, ie via Google or another site's link I kept getting a double Error 404 page.

Everything is fine today though, damn gremlins....
