daveh
My wife and I are big fans of the Gaelic channel, BBC Alba, even though we can't speak a word of Gaelic. The subtitles are excellent. There are often some terrific programmes there covering the Scottish islands and we have found them to be useful as we intend to visit quite a few of them. Any other BBC Alba fans out there in Shetlink-land?The station has been criticised as there are so few Gaelic speakers out there and I have responded several times that you don't need to speak Gaelic to enjoy the programmes. By the way, Alba are showing an hour-long programme, covering the 2010 Shetland Folk Festival, this coming Saturday as per the BBC link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/southscotland/hi/tv_and_radio/newsid_8789000/8789609.stm
Lapse Rate
Yup, I'm a fan. Also of Radio nan GÃ idheal. Last week four young Shetland muscians played on the radio for the HebCelt festival. I wonder what the listening audience thought a "Beanfeast" set was

daveh
I am not a Gaelic speaker but enjoy the programmes on Alba thanks to the subtitles. Keep an eye on the schedules to see the programmes coming up.
Guest Anonymous
definately far ahead of the yankee tripe that gets trotted out for sure , quite relevant and more "in tune" for islanders.
