BBC Alba (Shetland Related TV/Radio)

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are big fans of the Gaelic channel, BBC Alba, even though we can't speak a word of Gaelic. The subtitles are excellent.

There are often some terrific programmes there covering the Scottish islands and we have found them to be useful as we intend to visit quite a few of them. Any other BBC Alba fans out there in Shetlink-land?

The station has been criticised as there are so few Gaelic speakers out there and I have responded several times that you don't need to speak Gaelic to enjoy the programmes.

By the way, Alba are showing an hour-long programme, covering the 2010 Shetland Folk Festival, this coming Saturday as per the BBC link:

Couldn't find an appropriate thread to post this to, but thought it might be of intrest and others can add other shows if they wish in future.

Mods - please chop/move as appropriate if I've missed anything!

Found when playing with iPlayer widget, interesting listen :

Open Country - Fair Isle Knitting

Also, Fiddlers Bid have a show dedicated to them on BBC Alba (Sky Channel 168) tonight, Sat 31st July, at 9pm, which should be avaliable on the site soon afterwards.
