BigMouth
You might be better going to Harrys or the Bargain Centre for plastic boxes. The locking ones are good quality. Just avoid ice cream tubs as they can't live up to the conditions up here. I have also used ammo boxes, but as with my adopted cache in Unst "Can you here me mother" sic. It has all but rusted away. I have got a replacement, but lack any other reason to go to Unst at the moment.
BigMouth
Any meets planned as I seem to find it impossible to find them on the geocache.com site Just put your postcode in and it will show you caches from nearest to furthest and their direction. Longdog
Cheers Big Mouth Just popped into to visit the Lunna one while out at Stanes of Stofast (should have been organised and put one there). Looking a bit soggy and the camera isn't working, will log it. Kev

jaydee67
It's a hobby I enjoy and I've seen places I would probably not have if there hadn't been a cache to look for. I have several caches hidden and have found 60 odd up to now. My nickname there is also jaydee67 so not hard to spot mine!
jaydee67
The Big Lunch, Sunday 5th June in Michael's Wood Aith will also be a geocaching event. Sign up (if you're in Shetland) and spread the word - it will be great to meet other geocachers and have a picnic in the lovely woods. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=a3a3d48b-fb53-4614-a8e5-803c11eadcfa
jaydee67
Been out with my sister and niece for a lovely walk today, ending at 4 old watermills hidden from sight of the road with the added bonus of a geocache to look for which got us out there in the first place. We would never have been there if not for the geocache, a really interesting spot, great exercise and some fun thrown in. There are now 2 geocaching events in Shetland in the next 4 weeks or so. You can find out more by going to http://www.geocaching.com/ typing your postcode into the search box and looking through the 74 entries for Shetland. BigMouth
I am no longer getting to Unst as much as I would like, however I have a cache up there (GCG0P7). It is in an ammo can, which has been reported as rusty. I can either supply a new ammo can, or you can provide something more appropriate if you would be happy to officially adopt it. You would need to be a registered member of www.geocaching.com I can deliver anywhere in Lerwick or the north mainland, or can arrange a pick up place in Lerwick. Daegerty
Just planted a geocache here in Cork today, hopefully I'll be able to find a few when I go to Shetland
Daegerty
A recent thing I noticed with the Geocaching.com site is that its getting very commercialised. A phenomenon that is true about a lot of sites; they start off giving so much away for free but then when the idea takes hold they put on the squeeze Recently I found one cache in my area that is 'premium members only'. ie. only those who pay $30 a year to the site are given access to it. Even if you found it by accident you wouldn't be able to log it. There are also a lot more features that are premium member only and a huge emphasis given to premium membership. Most of the people who use the geocaching.com forums are premium members who start going on about 'supporting the sport' when criticised for making premium member only caches. While in reality they are just helping the owners of Groundspeak get rich faster.
jaydee67
When you get to Shetland you won't find any premium member only caches - not yet anyway! We had a great event in Michael's Wood in Aith today and there are over 70 geocaches in Shetland now of all kinds.
