david
Back in the day before every company had their domain name it was possible to make a bit of money. Now a days I'd say there isn't a massive opportunity to do it. It would be a lot of hard work, you also have to register a lot of domains to hope that one of them pays off. Personally, I wouldn't waste your time. But you can register domains at a heap of different sites. I use www.123-reg.co.uk £10ish for 2 years of a .co.uk £10ish for 1 year of a .com
Spinner72
About the only way I suspect any money is to be made this way these days is when a new domain goes live (like .co recently), but most big companies watch this well ahead of time. As for companies, I use and highly reccomend 1and1. Currently offering .co.uk domains for £2.
LandRover S2a
I've just registered a domain name with 123-reg.co.uk and it cost me £7.03 inc VAT for 2 years. Gives you a load of choices such as .co.uk, .org.uk, .com etc etc
Guest SJP17
so after 2 years if you dont pay you lose the name ?
Spinner72
^^ Thats right. Most sites seem to do .co.uk domains biannually, probably because they're so cheap. The moment your domain expires, one of the hoarding companies will snap it up immediately, then look to make money off you to get it back. I've had that happen more than once, and none of the domains were anything special for any other reason.

Ditto^ One of which became used for an eastern european forum, under an utterly inappropriate domain name (probably a sandbox). If you want to hoard, you have to be prepared to pay for the long haul, or watch them go.
Pooks
You should be aware though that purchasing a domain name purely for the purpose of selling it to gain money from a company or person that has rights to the name is frowned upon and it is highly unlikely that you would make any money out of it. Worth taking a quick read through this.
