Supposition as to "waves of ill feeling" could be claimed but without evidence are not really a fair comment.

Thanks.

For evidence see the poll at the top of this page. Whilst the people who post on Shetlink cannot perhaps be regarded as a representative sample, nevertheless the poll is currently running at 30 v 4 in favour of Mr Cluness's resignation, so I would argue that the majority view in Shetland is for the convener to stand down.

If Cluness cannot, or will not see that, following the assessment of the council delivered by the Accounts Commission, to retain any integrity as an individual councillor, and to retain the mandate of leadership, he must at least offer his resignation as Convenor. Then there is really nothing more to say about him, we're seeing, what we must presume to be his true colours.

The Shetlink Party has one idea and one slogan: 'Sandie musst goe'....

Is it Sandy Cluness you're talking about Brian, or is it Sandie Shaw. I didn't realise she wiz here?

I think you have not noticed the double "s" and extra "e." Brian is satirising the unorthodox spelling so common in Shetlink posts. Very funny too I thought.

I noticed alright, but I just thought he was typing in low-light or that he was blootered.

I appreciate the education lesson (thank you), but do find it strange that you seem to be some kind of press-secretary, in relation to what he was meaning?

Mr Cluness definately must go! He is deluded if he can last longer.

He reminds me of Norma Desmond from Sunset Boulevard.. In her case faded film star hanging on with no sense of reality! Mr Cluness hanging onto the Conveynor post with no sense of reality..

A fitting end for him would be:

He has failed us all!

i too put it down to the fact it must be difficult typing in that atmospheric dim red glow of a communist-esque bunker all the time, i didnt find it satirical in the slightest

I would think that Brian, like me, doesn't see much evidence of the grass being greener on the other side wrt the alternative leadershiip material within the existing elected members.

I have therefore narrowed my potential replacement list down and would put forward 2 names who are perfectly capable of taking on the role.

First choice would be Betty Fullerton. She has the experience of her time on Shetland Health Board and has now got 3 years experience of Council business.

Second choice would be Alan Wishart, again because of his long experience as Chief Exec of Lerwick Port Authority. I realise that his role with Viking Energy will be the problem here, otherwise I would have him as number 1.

My reading of the Council just now is that the current convener won't back swingeing and arbitrary spending cuts. Such butchery would hurt Shetland, and make people less likely to want to live here.

Probably not, but he's quite happy to back pointless expenditure that a blind man could have seen was never going anyplace right from the start. £6 Million non-Bressa Brig anybody?

Not cutting established spending, or initiating and driving additional pointless unproductive spending, whit's da odds?
