At least some folk in Shetland have a conscience for those who have not had the cushy life we have here.

Do you mean people younger than 19 specifically, or are these the only two decent young people in Shetland, or is your point just not really valid?

It seems no body writing here has acknowledged the crux of the matter.

How did these romanians come to be working in british fields?

The reason is we have no control over the influx of migrants streaming in from various european countries.

Now I see nothing wrong with kids of 12 and above working their holidays or after schools for a bit of pocket money, but if these kids are effectively slave labour without an education or roof over their heads, it needs sorted out.

But this sort of thing will only get worse with no border controls.

In the last 18 months I have witnessed increasing numbers of romanian beggars in various cities in england and scotland.

. They think they are coming here for a better life and spend their days begging on the streets or working for peanuts in a field , there are thousands like them.

But behind it all this is whats going on

Whils we pay billions and rising into this E.U black hole , we cant afford to support our own poor people or maintain our over pressed armed forces and as we pay this money into europe increasing numbers of europes poorest people are flocking to the U.K.

And while we are at it....No they should not be denied an education but I am not so narrow minded as to think education is only availably within the walls of a school, Mon - Fri

While my own child would receive an education of sorts by being taken by a criminal gang to another country and forced to work in a field, it's not exactly the sort of education I would prefer him to receive.

 

If that's narrow-minded, I would be happy to be described as such.

 

That would not make you narrow minded unless it was the only option you could conceive of. Or I might say you were narrow minded if you took everything you read in the press as 100% the truth, but more likely I would describe that as gullible.

 

I prefer to view the press with a degree of scepticisim and as I read the story my open mind could also see that there were other ways a child could find themselves working in a field, not only the picture of child trafficking painted by the text. Since I have not spoken to any of the children mentioned I do not proport to know how they came to be there. So without any real facts I try to keep to general discussion of possabilities and my opinions thereof.

 

It is my opinion that being trafficked and forced to work would not be most parents choice of education for there child. Some parents might think they could do a good job of educating there own children and that they could do so while working there way around europe as a family, experiencing much on the way.

Heaven forbid that these child labour inspectors might find their way into any of the recreational centres in Shetland. Children preparing and serving the most inedible food - they wouldn't be qualified to feed themselves at home, let alone paying customers in a public place!

at least those kids have got of their backsides, and got themselves part time work the fault for the quality of the sharn they are serving lies squarely with the overpaid adults supervising them.

I would quite agree that the responsibility lies entirely with the operators of the establishment. Some supervision, training and a visit from the food hygiene inspectors might be well served!
