MJ
depends what your definition is - just wait for PoseidonI'd ask at health Craft http://shetlopedia.com/Healthcraft they're usually very helpful on the phone and should be able to put you in touch with someone. If it's preperations you could try mail order from Newtondee http://www.newtondee.co.uk/ or Beannachar http://www.beannachar.co.uk/

MJ
No, I want to speak to a real Herabalist. Like I said Healthcraft should be able to tell you of anyone in Shetland. Beannachar made preparations for my former Doctor's practice. They stick to the letter of the law but should be able to advise you if any of their preparations would be of any use. If you'd prefer next time your in Aberdeen try my old GPs http://www.camphillmedical.org.uk/ there is a fee for non-registered patients as you're seen as a private patient and it subsidises the private treatments and therapies given to those who cannot afford it. Frances144
Thanks - I will start with Healthcraft and see who they recommend and then head further afield if no joy.
Patzel
Is there a herbalist in Shetland?not yet it depends whether you look for treatment or whether you just need some information or advice about some problem which might be cured by herbal remedies...If it's not treatment you are looking for you could perhaps get in touch with a lady who's just getting deeper into the subject of herbal medicine for home use. She lives in Shetland... you can send me a PM if you want contact with her.
Frances144
Thanks, Patzel. I have my answer now.
Guest posiedon
Frances144No, I want to speak to a real Herabalist. What pray do you consider "a real herbalist" As opposed to a quack? Any herbal medications that have been proven to work; are now mainstream medicine, the rest are Quackery; designed only to deprive gullible folk of their hard earned. Guest Anonymous
I would tend to agree with your last post posiedonyour previous one about chiropractors I would disagree with.got pain killers a plenty from the doc for back pain and went to see the chiro up here for the same with no good comming of it but went to see a dutch guy working at the Aberdeen chiropractors in great western road and after half an hour not only had he relieved the pain to the point that I danced out the door but i have had very little trouble with my back since, he found the prob and told me how to avoid it re-occuring best hundred quid i have ever spent. Any herbal medications that have been proven to work; are now mainstream medicine, the rest are Quackery; designed only to deprive gullible folk of their hard earned. Your post disappointed me Poseidon. When I wrote "real Herbalist", I meant a qualified one. Your comment that any herbal medication that have been proved to work; are now mainstream medication.... is just not true. I went to see my GP a few months' back to talk to her about my problem and she would not or could not help me. Rather than go into the gory details on forum, all I will say is one big spinal operation pending + womens "things" = a miserable and worried Frances. I emailed my qualified herbalist who came up with an answer and I have also googled it to have it confirmed. I will give it a go - roll on the Parsley Tea! So, rather than being quick to damn everything you don't understand, perhaps a more open minded approach to this sort of science is in order. I tried to go down the conventional route, was turned away at the first stop and resorted to a different, but by no means quackery, method. I will let you know if it works. Scraplet
To be fair, Posiedon is right. Herbal remedies have been studied by pharmacologists who have identified the active ingredients and turned them into a medicine you can take with a controlled dose. You cannot control the amount of an ingredient in a natural product, so a 'natural' herbalist doesn't know what dose you are getting. If he does, its because the medicine has been processed to get the active ingredient out. So its just medicine! Its a complete fallacy to assume that something is good because it natural and bad because it processed. If it has a pharmacological affect on your body, a chemical is a chemical, no matter where it comes from. Like Posiedon said, you could take an aspirin or lick the inside of willow bark. Same difference, but how will you know when you've licked enough willow bark? Or overdosed?
Claudias
^ ^ ^You accept the advice of the herbalist, just as you would accept the dosage prescribed by the doctor.
