Barton Redstane, Bobajob etc

If you read back to the orginal question posed be bobajob about rescuing this casualty.

In my reply, one of the first questions i asked was "what was the last harbour you departed from?"

Oh I just got to ask :) What difference does the last harbour make? How much further forward in your questioning if (assuming the casualty hasn't sunk and the crew abandonded already) are you by knowing the last harbour was Torshavnn, or Stavanger, or Kirkwall, or New York - days ago... how is that helping you get a position fix?

Not one of the first But the first question should be, confirm your position - that is if you have the luxury of time and they haven't abandoned

Just for reference "Donut" this is another detrimental comment of yours. Only trying to help you understand of course.

Bobajob was relucant to answer or was unable to answer and kept slavering doon his chin and going on like an uneducated baffoon.

Oh, and a word to you, Donut - don't bother trying to edit your posts to remove the obnoxious and incriminating stuff.

A lot of folk quoted those bits in their reply posts, and you CAN'T edit those, so any edits you make to the original posts will be even more obvious.

Have a nice life.

Not to worry Graeme, I've got them all saved to disk so edits make no difference.

Happily hand copies to the police, MCA etc when asked

Your wrong mattie , what were doing is supporting something we believe in whether we work for the Coastguard or are a member of the public, we dont want our local station to close , so whats wrong with us giving our views on it ,

After all we are posting on the shetlink forum , our local forum because its an issue that we feel strongly about and want to support

re the MCA... main HQ number is 023 8032 9486 ask for the chief exec - Sir Alan Massey. He has been contacted by a colleague already but a call from any non coasties too will probably carry more weight

(it's just a security person there at night)

locally, the Station manager (RCCM) can be contacted on 01595 743501

Interesting Fact No.2

The MCA has "previous form" in treating the public and the maritime industries it is meant to serve with contempt.

In 1998 the then Coastguard Agency presented proposals called "The Five Year Strategy for HM Coastguard." This proposal was eventually to lead to Oban, Pentland (Orkney) & Tyne Tees Coastguard being closed. The proposals were examined after the fact by the then Select Committee on the Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs (when it was too late to stop anything). In their Sixth Report of Session 1998-99 the Committee said, with respect to the "consultation" process.

"The document eventually issued by the Agency appeared to seek only to justify decisions already taken rather than to genuinely canvass the views of interested parties about the Strategy."

They continued:

"the Agency, in any event, apparrently ignored those who responded to the consultation document, deciding in the face of overwhelming opposition to the Strategy, not to alter it in any way. Thus there has been no serious attempt by the Coastguard Agency, and latterly the MCA, to engage in consultation about the Five Year Strategy. There should have been."

Clear alarm bells then as to the credibility of this consultation exercise. Particularly when you also learn that the results are NOT being independantly scrutinised. They will instead be looked at by a "team" headed by the former Chief Coastguard. So whilst participating in the process is a good way of registering your opposition, don't make it the only one. Continue to make representation with your MP and also press for the Transport Select Committee to examine this in detail BEFORE any of the proposals can be implemented.

It seems to me that the bulk of Kieche and Donutt's animosity towards the Shetland Coastguard is the perception that they didn't join in the strike.

Working to rule is a perfectly acceptable way of taking strike action when you know that a full walk-out would risk lives. Commendable, and far more worthy of respect than those down South who left their posts to admin staff.

Working to rule does not make you a scab.

I'm disgusted that these two individuals wish to see their colleagues fail.

I lived in South Yorkshire through the most bitter parts of the miners strike, and saw how resentment and spite caused far more damage than the crone Thatcher ever did.

Kieche and Donutt - Grow up. Have some respect for your colleagues, who have families, children, livelihoods. Have some respect for those who live locally and who know the area better than you could ever hope to. You come across with a superior attitude to Shetlanders when you know nothing about them, and you'd shake your head in embarrassment if only you knew how wrong you are. Your lack of knowledge of the beaches and who paddles in their waters is laughable. Your lack of knowledge of the particular difficulties with communications up in Shetland is worrisome - if you seek to belittle something, at least know what you are talking about.

I've lived and worked on the South Coast, as well as Shetland, and would rather have one Shetlander help me in my hour of need than ten Sotonions any day.
