glipper
I was in the coop today Mon 20 Dec and was cut short and had to go to the toilets..Well to say the least they were in a disgraceful state manky with the bin over flowing and the toilet pans were absolutely manky so bad i just held in and went across to the toilet in Bolts..This is disgraceful in this day and age..The management needs a kick up the rear for the state of the toilets.. (***Mod Edit - Not entirely sure what this has to do with discussing the Shetlink site so have moved it from the 'Welcome to Shetlink section' to 'Anything & Everything Else'***)
Stevo
Did you go and express your views to the staff.. so they could do something about it?

JordanKZ
To be fair, it probably wasn't the womans fault. It was down to the cleaners. If anything, this is more due to the people who use it. It genuinely annoys me that some grown adults can't use toilets correctly... It's part of the reason why I tend never to use public ones unless I really need to.

scooper
To be fair, it probably wasn't the woman's fault. It was down to the cleaners. It must be the staff's duty to check and make sure the toilets are in a clean and tidy state through the day..The cleaners probably only come in at night after closing time ...They obviously don't do regular toilet checks like most public places have.. I'm in the Skipidock most days having dinner and regularly use the toilet to wash my hands before eating, clean enough for me. I don'r expect it to be a palace but as someone above said its more to do with the people who use them that can't clean up after them!! daveh
You don't think the toilets are grubby? Fair enough.
Guest posiedon
The state of public toilets is largely down to [some of] us (the public) and the (somebody else will clean it up mentality) Some folk think it's fine to throw empty beer tins onto the verges because "somebody else will clean up."Maybe if everybody showed a bit more respect for our services (especially our public loos which are the best in the UK) and our landscape............? I don't blame the cleaners, I blame the cretins that create the mess.
ISOT
Well how clean do you expect a public toilet to be Dave? As I said who expects to eat their dinner of a toilet seat in a public toilet, I certainly don't. The cleaners in the Toll Clock work bloody hard and do their level best to keep them in a decent state. I don't know them personally but it pisses me off when a totally unsubstantiated remark like the one above gets made. I've been in and out of that toilets more times than I've had hot denners over the last 10-15 years and have never for the life of me thought to post something like that on this forum, whats wrong we folk? Anyway thats my rant over, hope santa's good to you all! Cheers
MuckleJoannie
I always find the Toll Clock toilets to be fine. However I was in the male toilet at the Coop on Tuesday and the toilets were exactly as described by the OP.
DizzyKipper
I try not to use co-op toilets if I'm honest. Most of the time they are not that nice. Toll Clock early in the morning are clean and tidy, I don't know about after 11ish. They look a bit tired and outdated compared to the town centre ones which are great, although the fact that the cubicle doors open outward always seems strange and slightly unnerving. I wish also the frosted door would be closed not wedged open... but they always clean in the morning at least. When I came to Shetland on a visit a few years ago, we went to Meal beach in February, and I was surprised to find the public loo open, clean, stocked with paper and next to no graffiti. Leebitton too. You wouldn't get that down south. At the very least I would have thought they would be shut up for the winter! Was a pleasant surprise. Back when I worked at the Co-op it was not anybody's job to check the toilets and clean them if necessary so of course nobody did unless a customer complained which was quite rare.....guess they all went to the Toll Clock instead. Silvercloud
Hi, I spoke to the manager of Clickimin the male toilets opposite the main poolhad dried urine at above head height on the walls ,a fortnight later it was still there despite being told about it obviously little boy or not so little at that height couldn't aim straight. However you would have thought they would have checked and cleaned them. mikeyboy
The coop toilets have always been honking. I thought they would have made a bit of an effort after getting the revamp but obviously not. Also apart from one or two exceptions the staff are amazingly surly even for Shetland.
