anorthernsoul
I certainly think there is a small but very enthusiastic following for DnB in Shetland so i would certainly suggest trying to give it a go, nothing ventured, nothing gained! As Zebiddy mentioned, this type of music hasn't worked for us in the past, but then again times have moved on. Agreeing again with Zebiddy, it would be worth trying to put something on at Norscot, as the venue doesn't charge, and they have their own PA, which keeps overheads low and would help to keep you're ticket price down, which would hopefully encourage people to come. The other secret is to try and get all your mates to come and get a crowd in early, this will create some hype around the gig and hopefully others will follow. As far as i'm concerned, the broader range of music available in Shetland the better!! If you decide to put something on, please feel free to PM, and i'll help as much as i can. shetlandpeat
I listen to our radio station most of the time, if it is on I listen. It is always interesting to hear other on the same radio station you are on. The radio station has no restrictions except the ones set by Ofcom for the type of radio station it is.Sometimes it seems to just drag, other times it sounds ok. I am not a fan of D & B, but do not see any reason for it not to be played on the radio. Some folk call it street music, though to me street music is music you can produce in the street, as did the poor of New Orleans and the steel drummers of the Caribbean. To produce D & B you need a mixer and so on. I have never seen people play D & B, it always seems to be electronic. It does not fit with the show I do, but I promote other folks shows, alas, at the moment, no D & B promos are on our Symian. Hopefully that will change. The relish analogy stays for now, cos, it is not widely listened to per say. But I don't need it forced upon me or anyone else.
GND Records
Pete no one is forcing it apon you or anyone, and im not asking for you to play it on your radio. im asking if people would be interested in the idea. you obviously arent and i respect that, its your decision. the idea of holding a nite is firmly in my head and i appreciate the responce from all those who show an interest. drum and bass is already mainstream already and follow on genres like dubstep, break beat and j-tek are comin in fast. electronica has a well established base in the music industry, and there is proof of this in shetland by people listening to house and trance. im trying to push the new generation of mucic forwards so that people can make up their own minds. new times, new people, new music.... Twerto
sadly i have "So many things to say no idea where to start sydrome" In short I would love a DnB night to happen up here I just think it would need to be advertised as a Hardhouse or folk music night to get people to go to it and then they would be plesently surprised as to how much better it is than they first thought.. Over the last few weeks I have observed all be it drunkenly the reaction to DnB when the odd track has come on at Da Weel bar, people seem to enjoy it but as soon as you mention that was DnB you were just nodding rather frantically at, they dont believe you. My own personal dream is to somehow getting a Electronic Music night up and running somewhere catering for all the electronic genres within reason. including some live sets and electro bands etc. Also would like to bring back to life this idea as i feel it could be a good way to build up a good following and perhaps it might just get more people involved in a scene as it were and turn something from a pipe dream into soemthign real. edit: oh and here is a blatent plug for some of my mixes Cobweb Remover Mix Chilled DnB Crazy DnB
shetlandpeat
There was no accusation of force, sorry, could have worded it better. The radio station would have D & B shows, or more of them if folk want to put them on once they have done their training. The D & B you want us to listen to, is it locally mixed? Was it produced by a Shetlander? I have other ideas for shows, one of which is a series with my links to Shetland, other folks links from where I live to Shetland and Shetland folks links to where I live at the moment. This will also include music from Shetland, new and old.The new stuff, if it has not been released I would need written permission from the owner to play, anything else that has been released I can play. We go through the proper channels as far as royalties etc is concerned. I will be working on this production and hope to do a pilot or intro show in the next month or so, maybe two. I would include locally produced/mixed stuff in these shows. There you go, I hope that clears some stuff, I look forward to seeing your promo in the Times for your turn at the Norscot. Do talk to anorthernsoul he has experience in these sorta things

Guest Anonymous
cmon you lot, lets hear your say on your opinion of drum and bass music...... YES or NO?????? Anybody ever heard of a question like "cmon you lot, lets hear your say on your opinion of country and western...... No?... Not surprised.. Anyway, I'm more of a metal fan myself and never really feel the need to put that question out to public. (call it smug confidence, if you like)

I'd be happy to supply some sound reinforcement if needed as this type of music needs a system that will play the lows down to 30Hz & a couple of Martin Scanners, 2 1500w Strobes & Smoke to chuck in the mix! I'd be happy to supply this free for the first one if Alan's doing the promo. I was also thinking it could be better to do an Electronica nite rather than just DnB, to pull in a crowd! Jungle, Dubstep, Old skool happy hardcore, Techno? Maybe even a bit of garage to kick things off!!! PM me if I can help out
