ISOT
I must state though that I find ISOT's attitude and in particular language unnecessarily which on this a family forum is clearly out of place.I do agree with you though that with everything people will find something to complain about (I myself couldn't understand why such a monstrosity of a PA desk was required right in the middle of the pier) however the comments from both locals and visitors were well founded. Come on Michael, using another word for excrement is hardly a crime, I even used an asterix! I'm not having a go at you in particular but you do see my point. Could you explain whats wrong with my 'attitude', I thought it was a fair point and as someone else stated you can't keep everyone happy. Anyway, where would you have set the stalls to make them more prominent? Cheers
Matt2010
Didna make Bjorn Again, was a bit miffed about having to hang around until 11.00 to get in through the gates yesterday morning. This is what greets you when waiting to get in.:- Not exacty a great impression of Lerwick to my mind anyway !I took a photo of the trolley last week - it was on the path! Was it a tad breezy at the Bjorn Again concert last night?I think Agnetha and Frida would agree - they were a little under dressed, lol. You'd think those Scandies would have a winter outfit for July

filskadacat
Thank you for the photos! When I booked my flights it never occurred to me to allow extra time in case of delay so I was already in Aberdeen when they were setting off, but by the time I got home and to a computer all the harbour webcam showed was empty quays. Also I note in today's paper that the wettest place in the UK yesterday was ... Lerwick. What a pity. Anyone any more shots of them going out? Fjool
using another word for excrement is hardly a crime, I even used an asterix! Not a crime, no, but against Shetlink policy. The filter is in place for a reason; we'd appreciate you not deliberately working around it.
man of kent
All I would like to say is; well done to the organisers, the event seems to have gone very well. I wished I could have made it up to Shetland for it, perhaps the next one? Could I remind those of you who have moaned, it appears to me that Shetland is very good at organising these such events, I attended the Hamefarin last year and thought it was very well organised. I think I see similarities here with the Tall Ships, all events can be improved, but dont knock those who did the organising, offer to help for the next one! Mitch76
I have to admit the tall ships looked stunning from what I seen on Saturday daytime ,I felt let down by the fact the kids area as in cadonas was rubbish ,come on I mean £5 for 4 mins talk about taking the piss here not all parents and kids are made of money ,there was not much choice for them at all . Can some one please explain to me why a scarf would cost £50 when it don't cost that normally and a hand bag cost £40 and these are Shetland items ,we must all be fools to buy it . The sweetie stall why such high charges for sweets . The food stalls why charge an arm and a leg we are not all mugs who Have masses of money to spend on food when u have kids with you. And the beer tent and 2 of the pubs why o why did u have to make it so dame expensive ppl would of payed ,pubs would of made the money why make it so ppl had to pay thro the nose ,do we all have mugs onournheads come on Shetland we don't need to take ppl for a ride
Mitch76
Is it at all possible for someone to please explain why the tall ships decided to start the 2nd leg of the race a way down the other side of sandwick and not at the bressevy light house .As at 5pm me and the kids went over the hill in quarff to go get some fab Picts of the tall ships leaving with all there sails up and guess what to my shock they were not there at all ,we needed a telescope to see them what a massive let down it was for the kids ,I mean why put in the booklet starting at bressey light house when u don't same in Shetland time . Noodeyn
Very disappointing to see a van parked in the disabled bay outside the Tsb for 3+ hours this morning, especially when it came to light that it belonged to Mr Dally, one of the event organisers! Shame on you!!!
Seaflech
-Is it at all possible for someone to please explain why the tall ships decided to start the 2nd leg of the race a way down the other side of sandwick and not at the bressevy light house . Well I'll give you my tuppence worth....The Tall Ships race is primarily that - a race. The time alongside in Lerwick was a bonus for Shetland, between the Cruise in Company leg from Greenock to Lerwick and the start of the Lerwick to Stavanger leg.I didn't see it myself but between 1100 and 1600ish on Monday didn't all the ships and boats parade up and down Lerwick for folk to see them before the race started?I'm guessing these ships, especially the bigger vessels, need quite considerable manoeuvring room once their sails are set, so how close in do you want them to be to the coast, just for the benefit of a few folk with binoculars who had ample chance to see them in the harbour? What next, do you want Stavanger moved closer to Shetland so that you can see the race finish as well? The visibility wasn't exactly brilliant, but what else could they do? You'd struggle to get 56 or so ships next to the Bressay light, in poor weather, under sail with limited manoeuvrability. I mean why put in the booklet starting at bressey light house when u don't same in Shetland time .I don't know what that sentence means. Muppet
I mean they managed it fine in 1999 with the start at the lighthouse and by the way you could see the horizon just fine it was not misty at all . The race start in 1999 was miles south of the Bard. I'm afraid I dont have any info on exactly where though. And I mean to say was why put start of race to be at lighthouse and the same in Shetland times on Friday .okay understand now . The Race will start at 17:00 at a position approximately 5 nautical miles south east of Bard Head.Race start coordinates: 60 deg 02' N, 000 deg 59' W
