Guest posiedon
Ghostriderand if the delivery service was really important to them, they'd hire a self-drive van to do them when their own van is u/s. The local Courier agents do so often enough. They'll likely do that after they've gobbled up one of the car rental companies If providing this service was part of their contract then what the hell are the council doing by not enforcing it?And "supposing they have one" What is the delivery driver doing just now? Guest Anonymous
Interesting to think that the Co-op at Holmsgarth used to run this service but was forced to end it due to costs/limited interest. And as for getting the SIC to force Tesco to uphold it's end on a contract?.... The SIC couldn't force a fart!
DizzyKipper
The nice driver(s) work in the store when not driving. Enforcement by SIC would be nice but, as you say, rather unlikely... The feeling I got from the manager was they would do more if there was the interest, but demand was lacklustre. Chicken and egg situation I guess. Ghostrider
^^ He shouldn't be surprised interest is lac lustre, with no advertising, not all that many folk know anything about it, let alone how it works, and with an unreliable service folk are going to be reluctant to rely on it. As sure as hell the time they really need their stuff delivered on the day set, will be the day the van is u/s. Interestingly, when Somerfield had the shop, and did home delivery, I saw their van delivering to folk round here quite frequently, especially in the run up to Christmas. I've yet to see any van delivering groceries anywhere round here since Tesco took over, despite more or less the same folk in similar circumstances as previous still living round here. Obviously without beeing a nosey beggar and asking them outright why they don't use the service any more, I can't know for sure, but on the face of it it would seem a case of lack of knowledge it still exists, or a lack of trust that their items will actually turn up. A conclusion which tends to have the effect of discouraging others from bothering with it either.

Silvercloud
I'll ask again down at my local store then because I would be quite happy to able to pick up my washing powder locally if they got in regularly ,they occasionally have ARIEL professional which was brilliant for us and when I asked again could you get this again we were told depends if could get it usually they have Persil which I don't like very much ,so if I see in local shop I buy as its huge box but they none in for ages. Guest Anonymous
with margins the way they are in a local shop it is doubtful they will get it in unless you ask for it specifically. We will try and get anything that a customer asks for even when it falls outside our normal stock range and speaking to the rest of the shop owners they are usually happy to provide the same service.I've got bags of cement for a customer and I would reckon it is at least twenty years since anyone has asked for that in the shop. The point is if you don't see it ask the boss. DizzyKipper
^^ He shouldn't be surprised interest is lac lustre, with no advertising, not all that many folk know anything about it, let alone how it works That is what I meant about the chicken and the egg The idea is you ring the customer service desk at least the day before, to make sure they have a driver available (and with sufficient notice there usually is). Then you go in, do all your shopping by 1pm, and Tesco drop it off sometime in the afternoon. It isn't like down south where you book a delivery slot. Interestingly, when Somerfield had the shop, and did home delivery, I saw their van delivering to folk round here quite frequently That is why Tesco are supposed to deliver. When they took over from Somerfield, they had to commit to continuing the home delivery. When it works, it works well. Unfortunately the van breaks down. I don't know whether the conspiracy theories are true or not.
Ghostrider
I don't know whether the conspiracy theories are true or not. The age of the van, and the mileage its done would go a way towards either confirming or dispelling those.

staffy
Had no idea they did a delivery service. Have had a family member in hospital (driver) and have been walking to and from the hospital and stopping off at Tesco to pick up supplies, but can only carry so much, would have been one less worry to know I could have had it all delivered in one go. Oh well you live and learn
Silvercloud
The service needs to be advertised on the Tesco community board,so even more people can make good use of this service.A poster of a reasonable size for people to clearly see the service being offered.
