Guest metallica man
Heard at work today that Clives Record Shop is closing due to lack of trade? Its a shame really but a fact of the current economic climate I suppose. Amazon, iTunes, Tesco, etc are all part of our lives now & when it comes to the crunch every penny counts. It also seems that the Shetland people will buy there big & expensive items locally to make returns easier but are not so worried about a CD or DVD. How true this is we'll have to see? xoni
thats such a shame , we certainly wont get the specialist music that clives provided in Tesco. clives is one of my fav shops in town , will miss it if it goes, but then if its not able to make a profit whats to be done? Guest SJP17
Tesco were probably the final nail in the coffin ! An other empty shop or will it be turned into yet another fast food joint
JustMe
If it is true then it is indeed sad news but I have to hold my hand up and admit that the last time I bought anything from Clives was when I was using a gift token several years ago. My CDs and DVDs are mainly bought from Amazon although sometimes I use other on-line places including e-bay and more recently I have bought a few downloads from a musicians sales site. In this case Arkade where I bought an album for £4.99. But I think that for increasing numbers of people it is so much more convenient to go browsing on-line for CDs and DVDs rather that visiting a specialist like Clives or even searching bargains in Tesco. The shape of things to come.

JustMe
Tread carefully here people - you're discussing a rumour and someone's livelihoodI wonder just what such a rumour would do to Clive's trade. Could it make people start to feel guilty about deserting the best record shop in town?. I know I am feeling guilty enough to take a look there next time I am on the street. Guest metallica man
An other empty shop or will it be turned into yet another fast food joint Or another charity shop! The little town where I'm from used to be full of all sorts of shops from butchers, bakers etc. since tesco's was built the town has died & its now full of the big high st chains, one or two specialists shops, cafes/takeaways & the good old charity shops! BigMouth
I have been in there once in the last 7 years. I buy from Amazon to save money, choose from my armchair and have delivered to my door. That is the way of things these days.
Donk
I have noticed that a lot of Clive's cd's and dvd's are cheaper than tesco just now. Got some good dvd's 3 for £20!!! Worth a look
shetlandpeat
We have smaller shops closing here, for similar reasons. Time to show a bit of support perhaps. It is not all Tescos fault, folk choose to go there, for what ever reason. As here, if local shops close, it seems Tesco or Sainsburys will take em over. In the times of hardship, Tesco always comes out on top...

sga
I agree that clives is fairly competitivley priced, especially the cd's and usually reccomend him to freinds who think he is more expensive. I dont buy many cd's or dvd's and sometimes buy from the likes of amazon. If I really cant wait the few days it takes to deliver something from online and sometimes it takes over a week even with paing extra for first class I'll go to Clives. He has a good selection for the size of his shop and as has been already said, can be just as cheap as the bigger stores. Unlike another shop in town that also sells computer games I find that he always has the latest titles in stock and not shelves off games a few years old still on sale for well over their release price. I know you cant beat online shops for convinience, especially if you dont go into Lerwick very often but sometimes its nice to just go in and browse. You might find something you wouldnt have thought of buying.
muckleflugga
I have colleagues from South who make sure any work trip includes a visit to Clives. They like the friendly atmosphere, competitive pricing, and varied selection for such a small shop.
