Ghostrider
The thing that gets me about the whole door to door evangelising thing, is that you never see an atheist or even someone of some other religion or creed going around asking folk if they're christians, and then trying to convince them they've got it wrong, and convert them to some other faith or to not believe in any. Whatever someone does or doesn't believe in I respect their right to believe whatever they like, and apprarently so do the vast majority of other folk. So what gives certain factions of those who believe in christianity, the right to invade my personal space at a time of their choosing, and have the gall to tell me they know better what I should believe, than I know myself. I wondered what drives these people to go around preaching at peoples doors too. I could not for the life of me understand why anyone would freely give up their time to go around preaching to people who don't want to know and are more often than not abusive. So I asked the jehovahs last time they came around why they do it. She told me that god had instructed her to do it! What can you say? I guess thats why you dont see the athiests coming round of a saturday morning, they don't hear gods instruction. They do eventually give up bothering you after a few years once they realise that you cant be converted, or at least they seem to have given up on me. I do still get the odd copy of the wachtower shoved under my door though.
Hector's House
For those - like me - who are happy with their own particular "non-belief" and who have a few minutes to spare when the Weaknesses come a-knockin', why not do some good for those of a weaker disposition who might be susceptible to the persuasive arguments (a.k.a. bad science & fairy stories) and have a good old yarnin' session on the doorstep - any time these insidious weasels are kept from bothering vulnerable folk is time well spent in my book - and I have good reason for suggesting that. I have yet to meet a JW member who doesn't have the appearance of someone who has been utterly brainwashed! But maybe I shouldn't generalise... different strokes, and all that...? Yes, that would be the Christian thing to do - tolerance, understanding, acceptance of alternative viewpoints... oh, er... By the way, does anyone know when they are predicting the End of the World (for the umpteenth time!)?
ArabiaTerra
By the way, does anyone know when they are predicting the End of the World (for the umpteenth time!)?I don't have a specific date for you, but I can say that over in the US around a quarter of the population seem to be actively working to bring it about. Scary stuff.

Strange to say I did just that about 16+ years ago. It was a long and diverse yarn covering many topics from medicine, science and developmental psychology. Eventually the man closed his optimistically open bible, thanked me for an interesting chat, and left. I don't know quite what I did, but they've never been back!
