unfortunately Kavi the islands have been infiltrated by a by a fair few scoty nazionalists. And if not enough lib dems make the switch to billy then the barstewards may just win and that would be a disaster for Shetland.

Yeh, unfortunately du's right :(. I drove thru Brae last weekend and saw one of yon yellow scottish flags on one side of the road at the petrol station and another flag across the road that was made up of mini salitres and english flags....and then a saltire flying fae the Brae school of all places. It was just terrible :(

As paulb says maybe an independant would indeed be good for Shetland in a tight parliament though.

And he willna come up against the ingrained feeling of animosity that's between the main parties when he's lobbying for things.

It is not surprising to note how the other candidates repeatedly keep referring to Billy as a "single issue candidate." This is clearly an attempt to induce voters who are pro-windfarm not to vote for him. How well that strategy is working remains to be seen, but on the basis of the discussions I have been having, it seems to me to be failing. I have yet to hear anyone say they will not be voting for Billy because of his anti-windfarm stance. Indeed, some appear to be more determined to vote for him because of the arrogant manner the other candidates have been taking.

Billy does not seem to me as an "anti windfarm" candidate so much as an "anti this windfarm" candidate. Or should I say an "anti this windfarm in its present form" candidate.

Since I think that Tavish would be an MSP without much of a party behind him in the backlash over the coalition with the Conservatives in Westminster I think this is a good time to remind the Lib Dems that Shetland is not theirs by Divine right and Billy Fox seems the ideal candidate to vote for to deliver that reminder. If he is elected I am sure he will vote according to Shetland's interests and that Tavish will survive five years tending sheep in Bressay or whatever it is losing candidates do.

Well with just two days to go I am still intending to vote Fox, Green and Yes. And at this stage in an election I confess a certain sympathy for candidates who might have reasonably expected to win but the electorate does not see it their way. For Tavish to stand on the platform while the returning officer tells him to "go to Bressay and tend your sheep" or Billy to be told "the people have spoken and maybe they believe in the wind farm for they have not elected you" must actually be quite hard.

I don't think Tavish is helping himself at the moment by repeatedly claiming that a vote for the Lib Dems is a vote to preserve rural education and policing, at a time when the ink is not yet dry on one substantial school closure and two rural police station closures that happened during his watch.

Somethng about stable doors and bolted horses springs to mind. As do "who are you trying to kid?"

As do "who are you trying to kid?"

I think that he might be in a bit of trouble up here.

He keeps trotting out the party mantra because he thinks it sounds good(?) to the 3 Million © who he is trying to persuade to vote for his party whilst the 20,000 © who might vote for him just aren't being kidded.

I was at the Radio Shetland Hustings and Tavish Scott was acting like an angry little five year old. I say Tavish Scott should go, and Billy Fox should be our new candidate :D

The problem is that devolution has been a disaster for Shetland but Tavish won't admit it. He may have been doing his best to "fight our corner"(but I'm not convinced) but to be honest it's of little comfort after three terms of an interfering, power-crazy Edinburgh dictatorship. We have as little local control now as when under "direct" London control.

Instead of taking the huff every time the Scottish Parliament is critisised Tavish should just come out and admit that it and Europe have been a disaster for Shetland.

I can't wait for the results on Friday

I can't wait for the results either, should be interesting!!!

Tavish has been coming up with these "grand" ideas, including the Scottish Water one, which means they'll get about 1.5 billion. BUT they don't take in the fact that the Coalition Government down south will probably cut the money going to Scotland BY 1.5 billion, so it'll be a wasted investment.

What exactly has Tavish done for Shetland, anyway? :?

I doubt if it will make much difference who is elected, this country is "broke" & whoever wins will be taken behind "closed doors" & briefed (brainwashed) with what they can & cannot do .

Whoever wins this election is welcome to the job for they will be ridiculed & severely critised ,no matter what they try to do, at a time when there is no funds & budgets are being constrained.

The problem is we are all greedy --we want big posh houses, cars , holidays ect,ect but most of all a massive wage packet to support it & unfortunately we have priced ourselfs off the market, so now fewer jobs, less folk paying tax to support the Public sector, pensions ,health service ect. We need to produce things again, & be able to sell them at an affordably price . What & How?

We need someone with some experience ,to take the helm & hopefully keep us of the rocks at this turbulent time, so I will probably vote for Tavish ,but I do not agree with all of his policies .

Definately will not vote for SNP, there is no way Scotland could possibly fund itself ,so NO independance.

We have to mind that Tavish ,has been party to a lot of confidential information so is bound to be a little guarded with his answers as will anyone else who should get his place !

Will people vote tactically to put Tavish out to pasture? If so, which candidate has best chance of actually beating him?

After 60 years of Shetland being treated as a one-party state when it comes to national elections, this is a chance to make a fresh start. Will people take that opportunity, or stay locked in tribal political loyalty?

other? no greens/socialist factions listed there...

Like this?

hmmm, yeah. it's no more wishy-washy broad appeal than the rest anyway. i don't even have a particularly strong opinion on the windfarm issue, other than to say if you're going green, tidal power would seem to be the obvious choice, being more reliable.

Maybe folk see a number of things wi Billy Fox and a few examples are:

One, he seems to have Shetland's best intentions at heart.

Two, maybe it's time for a fresh voice.

And three, maybe we have nothing to loose.

a little of one, a bit more two and a big old bag of three please.
