I would reccomend Wagamama on west george st just of Buchanan St near Buchanan St underground Station. Not sure a picky kid would like it but I personally could eat the whole menu quite possible in one sitting :P

For kids there is TGIFriday on buchanan st itself, Based on an american grill is the simplest way to describe it.

There is also a really nice Italian on West george st just before pizza hut sorry cant remember the name of it now tho. Might of been part of the Di Maggios Chain but not sure.

If they can eat chinese, there's a couple of China King buffet restaraunts. one in Suchiehall street and one in Bath Street. They are cheaper during the daytime, but you get a big choice of dishes and help yourself. Eat all you can.

That way they could pick and choose what to eat.

Depends what you are looking for!! I would echo the rave reviews for Wagamamas though!

'

There is also a plce called 'Thai Lemongrass' (www.thailemongrass.net/homegl.htm ), just opposite Cineworld Cinema, which is excellent.

Or, if you want to go out to the Westend, 'Ketchup' on Ashton Lane, just off Byres Road is a winner with all bairns......all the burgers you can imagine!

I am going to assume you are trying to avoid the 'chain' restaurants.

If they like Chinese go to the New City Palace on Sauchiehall Street.

Very reasonable lunchtime menu and the food is great. It looks a bit dodgy from the outside. One wee door and you walk along a corridor and up some odd steps but inside it is nice, large and always busy.

If you like Italian go to Dino's also on Sauchiehall Street. Good italian food every time.

If you do not mind chain restaurants or pubs then there is the Glasshouse or the Counting House both of which are Weatherspoon pubs. They do great value kids meals and the food is always nice.

There are multiple pizza huts, chinese buffet places etc which are all reasonable.

Ichiban, upstairs at 50 Queen Street, is a favourite. Great noodles and very friendly service. If you're pizza-inclined, there's also a Pizza Express (best by far of the chains) just up the street on the other side. Afternoon tea featuring empire biscuits at the Charles Rennie Mackintosh-designed Willow Tea Rooms (97 Buchanan St or 217 Sauchiehall St) is a Glasgow institution, and they do lunches too. Cafe Andaluz at 12-15 St Vincent Place has nice tapas and I think they have a kids' menu too - it's on St Vincent Street just a short walk from George Square towards Buchanan Street.

If you're spending any time in the west end, which is a good area for browsing (mostly) non-chain shops like Nancy Smillie (jewellery to furniture) in Cresswell Lane, there are endless decently-priced eateries on and just off Byres Road, among which Heart Buchanan (near the top of Byres Road) stands out. There are also some more expensive places in this area too, including long-established ones like the Ubiquitous Chip on Ashton Lane and Stravaigin in another lane just across Byres Road. Hillhead underground for these. In this area, another option on a nice day is to assemble a picnic at Waitrose in Byres Road and head up into the Botanic Gardens.

Still in the west end, off Great Western Road in Park Road, is the Shish Mahal, which is one of the city's best Indian restaurants - nearest underground is Kelvinbridge. On Great Western Road, Persia at number 665 is good - Hillhead or Kelvinbridge underground.

If you're doing any museums, the Burrell and Kelvingrove both have reasonably priced cafes and the afternoon tea deal at Kelvingrove is particularly good - just don't eat much lunch.

Fussy 10 year old = Pizza Hut or TGI's.

LOL at all the suggestions for Chinese, Thai and even Indian

Presumably none of you lot have tried feeding a fussy 10 year old?

I love Wagamama's, but our fussy 13 yr old was left still hungry after 'trying' something and pushing it around the plate for 20 mins.

Where do you suggest I leave my 10 year old on her own in the middle of Glasgow???? Also do you really think I have £160 to spare for a meal for 2. I would be looking to feed the whole family for a couple of days on that not just one meal. You don't work at Sullom Voe by any chance do you? Any jobs going?

My fussy 12year old counts Wagamama as a personal favourite, and has done since she was 8. but she learnt the hardway that she doesn't always love all chocolate cakes.

Pizza hut is also a good one for the buffet lunch, the all you can eat is half price for kids under 12. My daughter and her friends usually meet up in Pizzahut for that and the all you can eat icecream factory afterwards - then coffee at Starbucks.

Everyone's "fussy" child is different but holidays are an ideal time for trying "new" things. not a forcing thing but do a deal that they'll try something new everyday you're away (a small forkfull). Now my "fussy child" may not eat anything from a plate that's had a tattie near it but loves sushi (ewwwww) and Goat Curry (urgh).

Dim sum is good way of introducing new tastes, just like tappas.
