Buses to Tingwall

Hello we were thinking of going to the farmers market in Tingwall, maybe also the garden centre.

 

Could anyone tell me what time the market is usually over? By the looks of the buses, the earliest I can get to Tingwall is at 14.00

 

Oh wait that was number 23. The number 9/12 at 9.05 gets to Tingwall at 9.15

 

Any ideas where the bus stop is in relation to the market and planticrub as I have no idea!

have a look at http://www.zettrans.org.uk/bus/. Now the first thing you need to understand is that the Farmers Market is held in the Tingwall Hall which is well off to the right of the main road heading north from Lerwick while the Garden Centre is well to the left of the main road at the far side of Tingwall Airport.

 

Farmers market seems to be from 10am to 1pm so you could maybe get there on the 09.05 Walls bus and walk from the crossroads or the 12 Noon Vidlin bus right to the hall. Return buses from the hall at 13.28 0r 13.32.

 

Garden Centre might best be done another day with the Walls bus dropping you at the door and collecting you an hour and a bit later as it heads into town.

Did a bit more digging and the Tingwall Farmers Market is from 10am to 2pm so the 12 Noon Vidlin bus from Lerwick would give you a bit over an hour at the market before the same bus heads back to town.

I couldn't get this map to show both but the Tingwall Hall is in the area obscured by cloud in the top right just north of the street called The Strand

 

The Plantiecrub is just of to the left of the Tingwall aerodrome. You can see the edge of the greenhouses on the white road.

 

It would be a bit of a walk, though probably ok on a fine day as you can do it using side roads.

I'm guessing where Veensgarth goes left and Gott goes right, that's the crossroads. From there it's 0.7 miles to where I think the hall is on your map. That's OK on a nice day. Is there a hill?

 

I didn't want to get there noon-ish as it would be just my luck to finally get there and find them all packed up and gone home So it looks like a walk from the crossroads.

 

Hopefully any hill is sloping down to the hall... if there's a bus back the return uphill bit wouldn't matter!

Why didn't I think of that! It does indeed seem a leisurely walk

 

Are there many stalls to see?
