hi as far as i know brae(central garage) no longer do bike mot's

who else does them?

i've jim's garage but was also told very strict i.e.if they don't like the look/age of it they will find something wrong

any-one know any different

I've had no problems with Jim's, with an oldish bike.

 

They have become more thorough as time has gone on, but I've had a minor fault on the bike that I've overlooked that would represent a technical fail, whereupon they have happily given me a loan of tools to fix it then and there to allow a pass, which is as good as you could expect from anyone, I reckon.

JRJ do bike MOT's.

 

As for 'strict', there are rules laid down that they must follow and, there is very little 'wiggle room' in them. If your vehicle is not fit to be on the road then, don't be surprised if it fails.

Yes, Jim's Garage are strict, but always fair and helpful in my experience (I have made extensive use of Jim's, with bikes and cars, over very many years).

 

If a headlight is a bit out of adjustment then I have known them to take the extra 2 or 3 minutes to just get a screwedriver and sort it on the spot (if it is relatively easy to get at) for instance - using the alignment checker to make it perfect. They certainly don't have to do that, but it is nice to see folk being helpful.

 

So, Jim's garage = Nice folk to deal with, and highly recommended.

I go to JRJs with both my bikes (one is 35 years old and the other 26). I find Angus (the owner) much more in tune with what is required from an old bike; I've had the opposite experience at Jim's.

i have no objection to failing a mot when it's justified (well i do but you know what i mean)

 

the story i heard was unless it was the same as it came out of the box it would fail i.e. a different exhaust etc.

I have used both Jims and JRJ and always found both to be thorough, fair, and give a great service. I wouldnt think any MOT station would go out of there way to find fault just because they didnt like the look of something. They will only find something wrong if there is something wrong to find. Thats the purpose of an MOT.
