I think you know what I was getting at with the DHL's of the world, I could have said FedEx's or even ParcelForces'. Thnk you for pointing that out, perhaps you could ask them why they wanted to add over 60 pounds to the delivery of a cement mixer to Lerwick some time back.

^ Quick point re post, Shetlandpeat:

...............................................

Royal Mail doesn't charge extra to here, it is Parcel Force that does. Many courier companies charge more than DHL for delivery here so why have a pop at them?

Hang on, where did I mention that DHL cost more, you really need to pay attention.

Watch this

Already folk will not post to the Highlands and Islands without extra charge.

Hmm, no DHL there now, let us see where I mentioned it...

Our postmen have to deliver 15-20 leaflets each week to boost funds to pay staff. Meanwhile GOV will allow the DHL's of the world to cherry pick the proftable side of the business.

There it is, phew, you had me going there.

^ I'd be delighted to ask DHL for you SP; provided that you pay the £15 per hour I charge on a pro rata basis for drafting said e-mail or telephoning them for you - some of us have to work for a living.

That said, you probably know that the likes of DHL (And Royal Mail) go by weight for many of their items, with most of them offering a discount to their larger clients. Hey, but then, you probably knew that already ... phew, deffo didn't have me going!

I never mentioned anything about DHL being dearer in my original comments. And I do already know about weights and postage.

The comment though was after the false accusation by yourself, speed reading I assume.

But, the crux is that the PO will be cherry picked and the door to door stuff will not be in that.

Any how, I did say some folk...

Free to deliver to Aberdeen, additional charge to get it to Lerwick. Yup, DHL were the courier, but not the "folk".

The police, fire brigade, prison officers and NHS staff were also hammered by Thatcher, waiting lists of a year or more.

Highest unemployment levels, deprevation and crime.

Now, with the talk of overseas terrorists GOV is looking to cut overseas aid. How shortsighted.

I a sure folk will still giveto charity, well the ones that will be left.

Might I respectfully suggest that you go back and read my original post, SP. It is you who have speed-read - I asked why you were having a pop at DHL.

If you really want to be pedantic, you did not say "some folk" as you have highlighted in your post; clearly, you said "Already folk". Or did I speed read that too?

Can we go back to the original topic by any chance?

I pay my subs too, Unions are a bit cleverer with their manpower nowadays. It is a shame so many obstacles have got in the way of being tread fairly and just, employers wait for you to see a solicitor before they agree terms and employers now use it to their own advantage.

We have strike action at our place of work. Happily today, companies rely on so few staff that only that few need to strike to halt their progress.

No doubt there will be more throughout the land. Labour passed this last test in England, the next one is County in a year or so.

The biggest donation to our branch during the elections was from the unions, between about 8 folk, 400 pounds.

The Tories have been reported to have had several thousand left over from the bankers donations.

[quote="bobdahogIf you believe that then maybe it is you that needs the education in politics.

and if you believe that you definitely need an education in economics.

You reckon? I notice you still don't address the issue but, hey, don't let the facts get in the way of your neocon posturing.

Would you like to point out to me exactly what it is that Blair did or didn't do that was substantially different to Thatcher?

The council house sales continued, no privatised industries were returned to the public sector, the sell off's continued, our dirty little overseas war in defence of US oil interests went on, the NHS continued to be underfunded, etc, etc. I ask again - where were the radical policy turnaounds? where were the nationalisations? Where was the 'out of control' spending?

Its not a matter of what I believe Bob, its a matter of what is apparent and demonstrable. NuLab moved the party to the centre and often the centre right. The Thatcherite political platform was not substantially altered by the subsequent Labour government. They may have spoken the language of Socialism but they sure as hell didn't practice it.

Similarly, Brown is highly regarded for his chancellorship (although rightfully excoriated for his time in no 10) There is a fair body of thought - as peat points out - that Brown did a fair bit to keep the UK's head above water when other economies were in serious ca-ca.

So how about it Bob? How about coming up with some examples of the rampant socialism that you appear to believe undermined the Thatcherite paradise that preceded it?

(As it happens, I do have the benefit of an education in these matters (one of the last to get it on a full grant too!))

^^ Thatcher lost her way in her later years, she got to be delusional and couldn't differentiate between reality and the b/s she put forth via the media, as a result what she achieved during the majority of her tenure unravelled before her eyes in her last few years, and she couldn't see it happening. Major was a damp squib that could barely stop the rot let alone reverse it, too much having Currie cutting in to his time and thoughts probably.

Labour inherited a pretty neglected and decrepit ship, they didn't do much to try and improve it, and in the end they just gave up entirely. Now we're bailing like beggary, but a wadder lump wid leave us lying on wir beam ends....probably for good :?

I do not want to get into any deep discussion about the Thacher period ,but it has to be remembered that most of the decisions are driven by market forces. For instance the coal mines had to close as it was cheaper to import coal & no point digging our own with no one to buy it.

As I have already said in other posts we have priced ourselves of the market & now we pay the price.

Money do'es not grow on trees & with more & more demands put on government resourses it is enevitable that taxes will rise ,pushing the costs up even further.

I did not like Maggie Thacher ,she was more like a dictator but the one biggest "con" that she introduced with her privatisation was service providers.

Service providers are no more than unnecessary "middle men"or whole sellers that costs us more for our phone & electricty.

My phone & electricity comes direct from the exchange & power station

so why do I need to pay any Tom ,Dick, or Harry for it .

This was a stealth tax to create jobs & this is certainly true, it's you & I who are paying for the call centres not only with our time to answer there unwelcome calls ,but with additional costs on our bills.

What we need is real jobs, with long term prospects but where will they come from ?
