At a glance I was more surprised at what was on it, than wasn't on it. Maybe I'll get the point better if I spend more time better informing myself of the purpose of the site. But as an initial reaction, while I can appreciate maintaining/restoring certain old buildings as a living example of history, or if they're unique and exceptional, I'm not sure I can go along with a blanket preservation of everything. For example, the majority of Laird's Haas followed a loosely standard design. If you hang one to say three or four of the better examples, is their any real gain in keeping more than that. Certainly each one has its own unique history, but that history will remain regardless whether the building is A1 or just a rummel, very little of the history is detectably preserved by preserving the building. Whitaker Posted July 7, 2011 Report Share Posted July 7, 2011 I really want to see Ander Hill lookout tower on website. This tower may not be an attractive buidling but it has stood at the top of Ander Hill for 100 years. It is the only one of its kind in Shetland and since it was built during WW1 it is a piece of history. The tower on Vaila has been turned into a private living space and is just wonderfull. A future use for the Ander Hill tower? When they put that whale skeleton on display they were saying "visitors welcome", which I took to mean they wanted folk to come, and they'd do their best to make it possible whenever someone was interested to. The old small croft house at the end has been empty for years and for the last 4 years it has been getting a fantastic makeover. If anyone has a wish to see this property then head over to Burra.
