So, this would be a Shetlink poll to see how many folk will moan and whinge about there being too much moaning and whingeing on Shetlink.

Are you moaning about the folk whinging or are you whinging about the folk moaning about the whinging?.

There is always a bit of moaning on any forum, Shetlink isn't alone in that, lately it does seem to have a bit more than normal. Folk clearly aren't happy with their lot in life or they just want everyone to listen to them moan, probably the latter.

I think that given the usually extremely trivial nature of most of the subjects that are moaned about on here (again and again and again and again), it is actually a reflection of how pretty good we have things in the grand scheme of it.

Can you imagine if the was a Libyalink or Syrialink website? What would the hot topics be on those forums? Somebody playing bagpipes outside their Bedouin tent? How their ferry isn't big/cheap/fast/regular enough? How somebody didn't dip their lights when they drove past them three days ago?

Naturally it is human nature to whinge and complain about things, but it is too easy on an online forum, sitting behind a pseudonym lest anybody know who you are, to simply spout off about anything and everything and make damn all attempt to actually improve the situation.

Of course there are some people who just love to moan - quick enough to highlight everybody else's inadequacies whilst failing to spot their own, and god forbid if somebody else should point them out for them.

Shetlink is great for interesting, intelligent, often amusing discussions about so many different topics whether it is about or outwith Shetland itself, but it occasionally does bring out some desperate shows of ignorance, arrogance, xenophobia and narrow-mindedness.

So for all you perennial whingers out there, and you must know who you are, before you start your next topic on why you can't find left handed screwdrivers anywhere in Lerwick, or why the council didn't stop it raining while you were loading your shopping in the boot....... Sit down at 10pm tonight and watch the news and see the real issues some people have to face, then look at your 'problem' and ask yourself "Am I just a whingeing git?"

I expect not, but then again...

There is indeed. Reading this forum too much would put me off coming to Shetland, but I didnt' read it too much and glad I went now. Didn't like Lerwick much but the ferry was grand, up in Unst now and tis a nice place.

Where I'm from at home is fairly remote too. I find people who live in densely populated places naturally have a tendency to get very nitpickity and are more prone to being ould complainers than culchies from the middle of nowhere like meself.

Some of these complainers need to get up their ass and realise they are only wasting their time. I used to be a bit like that myself but try to be more easy going now

Moaning and whingeing is to some folk a mechanism that allows them to vent minor annoyances and frustrations....it used to be kept for the pub or a claag o' weemin over a coffee or tea pot. Shetlink is just too handy of an outlet to ignore.

The alternative to venting, is to become a grumpy old barsteward sitting permanently barking and growling at anything and everything....like me.
