With the tourist season (including the forthcoming Tall Ships event) here, it would be a diplomatic thing for the lights to be repaired ASAP otherwise there will be many leaving our beautiful islands with memeries of getting fined somewhat unfairly.

ICEPICK239:

I am intrigued at my previous posts being “totally incorrect†– please enlighten me as to which ones?? I can’t wait to see your response.......

I happen to know our rights.... Hence my family or friends do not pay speeding or parking tickets, nor do we pay TV license, nor do we comply with a financial legal system, nor do we bow to the people who tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel. I do not think that these liberties should be the preserve of the rich, so I am quite happy to share the knowledge. It is clear that my posts aren’t aimed at people like you, so in future it may be prudent to add value to a discussion as opposed to your usual petulance.

The schools will have been shut for a couple of weeks by the time of the tall ships.

I know first hand that Politically_Right is speaking the truth as I was forced to test it earlier this year (after a lot of research). I wont go into details but I stood up for my rights when faced with poxy legal charges when no real crime was committed (no-one suffered injury, harm or loss).

I usually don't post in the Shetlink forum as there is only so much nonsense and unfounded opinion you can counter. There is usually an avalanche of BS when anyone suggests that the big boys in charge are anything other than caring, sharing, benevolent and totally transparent and honest.

It's a good thing no-one can vote your rights away, otherwise the stampeding herd would have been conned out of them a long, long time ago.

Oh go on, otherwise you are starting to read like Politically_NOT Right

Politically_Right IDIOT

The advice given on your previous visits to Shetlink was totally incorrect and made you look a boastful, know-all Pillock.

Nothing has changed....

This is wan o da reasons why some folk decide not tae git involved and post in da forums.

I am 100% sure my comments will not upset Politically_RightWRONG in the slightest.

Maybe his/her advice could help the Captain, if what I hear is correct?

A few years ago, a 'good friend' of mine was charged with speeding along the top road at Gulberwick. When the charge came through the location was the Tingwall straights? He checked with a local solicitor who advised to plead not guilty, as he clearly wasn't on the Tingwall straights, and let it go to court.

The court date was a few days after the 6 month limit where they can't recharge you for the same offence. On the day of the court case they realised there were inconsictencies between the police notes and the charges and they accepted the not guilty plea.

Moral here is that the charge needs to be rock solid - if the sign isn't/wasn't working I'd suggest getting some evidence.

Thank you I will be looking for any repair work to the lights and am tempted to try some recording should the fault be present over the next few day's.

This thread was started in response to a likley miscarriage of justice and potentially a very real danger to any one using this section of road at the sound school can anyone tell me why it should be overtaken by childish arguments,.

If these people have any worthwhile contribution to make to this thread please continue however, as I suspect they have nothing constuctive to add please stop.

Maybe the mods could open a "lets argue" section. before the good thing that Shetlink should be is destroyed.

Any other information relating to the 20Mph warning light fault on the Lerwick side of the Sound School most welcome.

Thanks Stevo that's interesting.

There were two policemen, one with the camera pointing down the road and the other writting as fast as he could.

I am pleased to say that my licence has been clean for 20+ years, it once held 9 points but again that's a very long time ago!

but you were speeding you may get off because the lights are wonky but where is the miscarriage of justice. everyone knows that the 20mph lights come on in the morning at dinner and at home time. the slowly moving traffic from the other direction was the clue.

we have a permanent 20mph zone even when the schools out. should we ignore the law just because its easier to. the 20 zone is there for the protection of the kids

PaulB--Read the first post  Again this morning the lights do not work and there is no warning that the temporary speed limit is in operation, some drivers will not be aware, today's traffic is slowed by the inward lights, outward traffic is moving at a legal speed but over 20Mph

Well I certainly didn't know that the 20mph lights come on in the morning, etc., as I don't live in Lerwick, don't have children of school age so wouldn't have the foggiest re what time the school starts (have a rough idea), when is dinner time, home time, and so forth. The same applies for driving down to the sarf end when passing schools - I don't know about the one in Lerwick but I'm still trying to figure out elsewhere as to where the 20mph zone ends (Is it when you see the 60mph limit/white with black diagonal line sign?). Besides, apart from folk living in Shetland, how the hell would a visitor know? What about during school holidays? Should we know those dates also?

If the lights were not working, then surely the 30mph max speed limit applies? Granted, commonsense would remind you to slow down near a school regardless but if the sign states 20mph when lights flashing and the lights are not flashing plus no children around on the footpaths, how on earth are motorists meant to know that a 20mph is in force? Yes, a permanent 20mph zone would be one idea but it is not applicable in this instance.

unlink if you don't know that kids are going in between 8.30am and 9am and leaving about3.15 -3.40 your do now. dinner is roughly 12-1 or 1-2

depending on the school.

if its a permenent 20 then its in force all the time. as sheltie says the flashing lights ones are only in force when they are operating. the smilie face that they used to have near the swimming pool was a good idea.

however even if they are wonky its reasonable to drive at the speed of the othe sides speed. if they are slow use it as a guide. after all its there to save lives.
