I'm over the moon that they've let him out on bail. I'm also very pleased about how early the appeal is going to be, considering that his solicitor expected it to be "in two to three months' time". If he get's out by the start of August, he might even make it to my stag weekend :D

But perhaps thinking that far ahead is a little premature. :?

Edit: by "getting out" I actually meant left alone!

This is wonderful news!!!

Well done everyone and welcome home Sakchai! :D

Have been lurking these forums for a while but only just got round to registering. I couldn't get to Clickimin as I'm out in the sticks with two young kids and no car, but I was there in spirit and have joined in the letter writing, now I'd like to donate to the campaign but can't seem to find the details of where to send donations - is this info available?

One thing I've been wanting to say - if a third of Shetland's TOTAL population has signed the petition, what percentage of the ADULT population has signed?? Bet it's a lot higher! For instance, my husband and I have both signed, but our two daughters are too little to - so our household compromises *four people*, but only *two signatures*. When you put it in these terms, it shows that the level of support here is probably even higher than it seems! And, even as it stands, a third of the population is pretty damned impressive anyway! Well done everyone! I am so proud to live in Shetland! :)

Good luck Sakchai, Davie, and everyone else - I hope and pray that you win this.

Superb news! Like others, all my thoughts have been focused on North Shields all morning. Great to think he'll be HOME with you all soon.

All praise to DavieG, Alistair, James, Tavish, Alyn and his lawyer Alexandra Bartrope.

Now the Campaign really begins! The short deadline will maintain focus.

As one of the requirements for naturalisation is to be of good character, Sakchai would - on the evidence of the testimonials to date - surely receive it!

I hope that not only is the deportation order rescinded at the appeal hearing, but that Sakchai is naturalised as a British Citizen ASAP thereafter. All these headlines starting "Thai Man..." irritate me no end.

First things first, though....

The overwhelmingly +ve media coverage is a boon.

With all best wishes to Sakchai and his supporters - wherever they are,

This is an excellent step in the right direction.

I assume Sakchai will not be escorted back to Shetland at 'Her Majesty's pleasure', but will have to fund his own return journey.

Additionally he will have to fund travel to his appearance at the hearing.

Therefore the importance of the fundraising efforts of the Shetland public cannot be emphasised enough.

Shetlanders should be very proud of themselves today.
