support for elderly and disabled people in Shetland

Recommended Posts

My Dad gets looked after well. It was a little difficult to get him assessed and then put in full time care, I think this was due to his agility and bloody mindedness. We eventually got him settled.

The staff at the care home, like any in Shetland are the best.

Shetland still looks out for its auld folk.

I do not know how the cuts will work with this but I feel the care will still be far better.

All I can say really is as soon as you get there, sign up for the schemes available that will help you. The offices at Harbour Street will help, if not tell you where you need to go.

There are many clubs and activities there to help and the sports and swimming pool is great.

You will be well looked after.

I presume you are meaning Disability Shetland? The entrance is in Market Street.

There are also other, independent, charitable associations and groups to assist with disability (sufferers and their families) in its many forms.

The Shetland Stroke Support Group provides support for stroke sufferers, their families and carers.

Regular events and things take place.

^^ Yes, there was a door, when it was a garage....it morphed to big window, quite a few years ago. I don't remember whether it was when Leask's refurbished the interior to make their showroom, or whether it was when the whole building was rebuilt/converted/whatever in to offices/whatever.

You can see the door on the corner from this photo, which dates from the time it was Ganson's garage.

It was blocked up during Leask's tenure of the building

The entrance is now off to the left of the photo, just out of sight.

  • 3 years later...

We used to joke at work that by the time we retired there would be nothing left in the pot to give us the Xmas  bonus .

Well guess that joke is now turning to reality.

.

Feel sorry for anyone who really needs it!

So where has all the money gone?

Someone somewhere must know, and they are probably lying on some sunny beach in a warmer part of the world enjoying it. :ponders:
