Stevo
Another appeal in The Shetland Times today for witnesses's to come forward and contact the police with regards to this incident. I hope the people who have posted here who witnessed the events of that night have been in conact with the police. It takes a pretty sick/violent individual to do in a man on crutches! Yet another incident http://www.shetnews.co.uk/news/2677-man-stabbed-in-commercial-street.html Another incident yes - but if i mind right then the first cctv camera starts at the post office. The toon cctv system doesnt go as far as the boating club. So you cana really blame the cctv if it was never there in the first place. However i am personally shocked that shetland has stooped so low as to follow the trends of the mainland. Sad day when someone is stabbed in the street and left there.. helpless. Shocking! Guest Anonymous
You've forgotten about the last knife attack.. About a year ago? Same area of town (down by Queens Hotel).
Piddly
I know the Shetland rumour mill is in full force with this one and I understand that, but, for everyone reading the link, i'd just like to point out that the writer of the article has said the young man was 'stabbed', if you read carefully what the police statement says, its that they are looking for information on an incident which ".....a 23 year old man received an injury which resulted in hospital treatment." The police haven't actually said it was a stabbing. This may not turn out to be what everyone is thinking it is, time will tell.

Guest Anonymous
^^ Wasn't it a 'dispute' between two Polish or Lithuanian factory workers outside Scottshall Court? If my memory serves me the victim made a full recovery from a knife wound to the side of his abdomen and the culprit got (I think) 9 months? Para Handy
^^ I'm aware of Police procedure when it comes to gathering evidence. Surely though, It would've been better to have stopped this assault becoming a serious assault by alerting the on duty officers that cruise the street most weekends? Then It would only have required a recording of the events and not a request for witnesses.NorthernXposureA stabbing has more brownie points than a simple assault so why would the police get of there backsides for anything less.Unless anything to do with drink that is or seatbelts
EM
... outside Scottshall Court? It was there, but somewhat more dramatic. The incident happened at a flat there and the stabbed guy ran for his life. As he exited the court he was very nearly killed by running in front of a passing taxi. That would have been a remarkable bummer. As it was the appearance of the taxi caused the attacker to retreat. When the police checked the flat he was found hiding in a cupboard. There was some kind of family relationship between them I think. As for last nights incident, despite it happening near the house, I heard and saw nothing. It is quite strange, I'm living in "street slasher central" yet I'd say it is one of the safest and cosiest feeling places anywhere. Makes you think. Is it possible they've failed to follow up a complaint sometime in the past?

And having a car vandal let of with a lesser charge for pleading guilty

shetlandpeat
No amendment was listed on the report. There has always been violence in Lerwick, I remember it 30 years ago, so to say it has increased or decreased is a shot in the dark.Anywhere there is drink served, there tends to have been some sort of violence. Goes with the game really. And the Police and Ambulance service have to deal with it. I was also looking at buying Loch End House a few years ago, it was quiet and had a great garden, still the same I believe.
