Biglad
I remember being scared that the teachers would tell my old folks the bad things that i did at school as i would get a good thrashing, the threat of that was enough for me to try and be good, otherwise i would not have been as a grounding or a good talking to would have had no effect. But nowadays the parents are more likely to go to the school and beat up the teachers as there children can do no wrong. Thats more or less exactly my thoughts too! Guest Anonymous
@PleepsieOf course not, I understand it can be a frightening experience for older folks.I would hope someone else would speak up and do something about it.
millie
My children are at Scalloway school and I an NOT happy that they will be going to AHS. When our children go to school the local authority accept a duty of care to them. I can not see how they can fulfill this obligation when they have no idea where they are and what they are doing. You have the right to school them elsewhere - or at home should it suit you better. You would have to provide transport yourself, but if it is something you feel strongly about it might be worth considering.
mikeyboy
What other High school is available?
zebedee
Sandwick and Aith both go up to 4th year I believe, and Brae up to sixth year.
mikeyboy
I never realised Sandwick had a high school. I suppose that would be doable but Scalloway to Aith might be a bit of a trek.By the way Millie I wouldn't advise you to send your kids to Brae. I have heard that the bullying there is very bad.My son attends the Anderson and I will be asking him about what has been going on at lunchtime. Although i do know that he wouldn't stand by and watch an old person person be abused.
zebedee
That's odd Mikey, because my child goes to Brae and she says that she isn't aware of any bullying since one particular child left the school. I do know however of issues in other schools. I don't think any school is immune, but I am very happy with Brae school for my child, it is a far better environment for kids than the high school I went to. mikeyboy
Thats interesting because the bullying was the reason we didn't use Brae. We know first hand of quite a few incidents but it does make you wonder if one kid was at the center off it. Bad apples and all that.
tojo
There are various Junior High Schools around the Island that could be an option and indeed Brae is a High School that caters for up to S6.
