Silvercloud
Hi, Some information here on Waterbirth for both hopsital and home. You can take your own pool to hospital should the hospital one not be available in alot of hospitals. Also your own pool at home is excellent for birthing they are not expensive. They are easy to set up and use and there is plenty of choice too. You buy disposable liners so they can be cleaned and disinfected and new liner placeD in for future birth or you can sell them in safe knowledge that new liners can easily and cheaply be obtained. Many come with a pool cover too, handles inside for the labouring woman etc. http:www.aims.org.uk/choosewater.htm

Silvercloud
There are many reasons why some people are told they are not "allowed" a homebirth. Just remember no professsional person ,whether midwife,GP or Consultant, "can allow" or" not allow" anything including a planned or unplanned homebirth (free birthing/unassisted -small group women may choose this as an option). You need no one permission despite what some mothers are frequently told and yes by law they must support you in your decision. However far better to plan for a homebirth if you choose to do that, and if necessary read about your subject carefully (using evidenced based research) and if there are any "risk factors" presented to yourself you can look into them carefully yourself in your *own time* and get back to your care providers with YOUR informed decision. Some of the common reasons why it may be suggested not to plan for a homebirth I've listed below and a link to provide you some additional reading on the subjects as a starting point. You can't have homebirth if your expecting a big baby...http://www.homebirth.org.uk/big.htm

Silvercloud
Can I have homebirth as an older mum .. http://www.homebirth .org.uk/oldermums.htm There are plenty more on the homebirth reference site for mother to look through and with some lovely homebirth stories . Remember you can always plan homebirth and even if you had to transfer in to hospital which is not often when homebirthing ,it is not always because of an emergency some transfer in for variety reasons but many mums say they were glad they planned homebirth anyway as it gave them best possible start and allowed them to labour as long as they could in their chosen enviroment. Silvercloud
We have also all wondered about the "what if "senarios, and here is a link which help provide some up to date information and dispel some of the myths, fear tatics, stories. http://www.homebirth.org.uk/whatif.htm Again this just information for people to look at and decide for themselves what maybe right for them, it is not to persuade anyone to homebirth, because that is down to the indvidual alone and what right for one is not right for another. I feel it is important where mothers can get up to date evidenced based research from to help them form their own decision especially if they are faced with differnt points of view. They are then free to make up their minds with no pressures. It may helpful to some.
