This link has been provided to give women information on how to achieve a homebirth if she has made her informed choice to do so when faced with opposition.

It may well be helpful to some and to tell the Trust very clearly in writing YOUR informed choice from the start (or when you decided to plan your homebirth).

AIMS also have a national helpline phone number / email and will advise as necessary about any prolems any mother is experiencing from booking a homebirth or indeed any problem concerns throughout preganacy and childbirth and beyond totally confidential

See AIMS SITE on these pages,

Just to remind mothers AIMS can help in variety of ways and not just with homebirthing this is just one area they specialise in.

Quiet night so I just trawled through this thread to see if you get many responses, I found seven out of the 122 posts, the rest are your own (and some of the seven were only promoting their own business interests),

Are you not being a little bit obsessive here?

Forgot to say my 8th baby was another planned homebirth 20 dec 2011 9 lbs
You planned No 8?

Isn't that a tad irresponsible given there are already more mouths on Earth than we can sustainably feed?

My mother had seven of us, all at home, but that was in the 1950s before folk knew better.

PS.

Are you American perchance?

PPS.

Don't say you've had loads of PMs/emails on this subject unless you have and can provide evidence.

Hi,

These pages were to provide information on childbirth that is not always available from the NHS.

Some mothers find it difficult to access the information, they do not need necessaily to reply here, some also find it difficult to speak out freely due to close knit community and some of the sites given may help some poeple with any necessary research they need.

Whether I have 8 children or not is my carefully planned decision and that has nothing to do with providing mothers the necessary information which they may find helpful

PM's ,telephones calls, talking to other mothers, families etc are just that, private.

If you do not agree or these pages do not help you, there is one simple answer do not read them, this is not a debate about what I may choose to do, right or wrong but a place for mothers /families to read and find any imformation useful.

The pages might not be easily accessible to those seeking information on natural childbirth and associated maternity topics given the existing title, which appears out-of-date somewhat.

If the title was say Natural/Home births or something along those lines, then those interested could find it a lot easier, given that the search function isn't working.

Surely just one link to AIMS (Excellent organisation) is all that is required instead of repeated references?

Hi ,

I will be updating from One World Birth shortly.

I agree the title could perhaps do with changing. These pages are not just not about natural childbirth. It's about all choices in pregnancy and childbirth whether in hospital or home and some choices are not always made freely available even when you decide to birth in hospital.

One World Birth covers alot of topics in childbirth, birthing in hospital and home. Homebirth happens to be hot topic at the moment around the world and policies being updated.

^ With all due respect, home births have been a 'hot topic' for the last 20 odd years, if not longer, depending upon which part/side of the fence you happen to be sitting on.

AIMS have been campaigning for years and have been raising the issues you mention for more than one decade.

Yes, information should be more widely available but from what I have gleaned from your posts, you aren't saying anything new.

There's a fine line between 'advice' and 'indoctrination' - and unfortunately, to some, constant bumping (if you pardon the pun) can give the impression of the latter.

AIMS may have been campaigning for years, however some NHS Trusts are more *open * to a mother's inform choices in pregnacy/childbirth , hospital/home than others.

The only indoctrination that is occuring is from the NHS by only promoting certain choices to mothers in pregnancy /childbirth and not presenting ALL choices/options.

The NHS Trusts in Scotland has an agenda of "keeping Childbirth Natural and Dynamic" (Their words). However by not promoting choices in pregnancy and childbirth they contradict this by promoting only what they would like.

So we will agree to disagree.

  • 1 month later...

As we know, September is a busy time for midwives. The one I talk to, who is also a councillor has now decided to take time off in September because of the workload. She said they are expected to work most days and of course be on standby most nights. This seems to be a problem where there are not enough staff to sensibly cover these busy times. This must then affect the choices. We were never offered home birth. I understand with number one, but number 2 and onwards seemed a bit harsh.

Home births have not always been hot topic, even in the last 10 years. Sadly, they are only available if there are the staff. The risk may be too much for some mothers to consider.
