thing1
Am I missing the point or did the shetland fudge company completely copy the idea of making a teddy bear out of fair isle from Burra Bears? That being the case I am guessing that the shetland fudge company would have no worries about anyone setting up another homemade fudge company on da street????? After all apparently a little bit of "healthy competition" is a good thing!
owre-weel
Bairns bairns, how quick we all are to start judging and making negative comments and hearsay about people on dis site, when we dinna really ken da full wye o tings. Then to start da shetlander versus incomer bruk jist gits me back up. Burra Bears is a great product and I wis lucky enough tae buy twa mony years ago. I've no seen da idder bears, but der mabey oot o my price range. Noo I'm sorry fir going against da grain here, but folk in shetland are renound fir copying any idea that folk tinks will make money. I'm surprised its taken so long. Its mabey moraly questionable, but unless you have a patent on it, there seems to be little you can do aboot it. Der are a few posters on dis site dat really need tae git oot a bit more

After all apparently a little bit of "healthy competition" is a good thing! There is a difference, the Burra Bears are an ornament, The Shetland Teddy Bear Company bears are a toy. I thought this was about someone setting up a web page in the name of another company and directing searchers to their own page. I am sure it would be easy for lawyers to sort. Of course I realise that there are no two businesses supplying similar products on or from the Isle. Healthy competition is fine and well. It is a shame that there has been many nasty posts on the fart gas known as social media and other forms of community anonymous postings.
kittybee
Been lookin at dis post, and as far as I can see, Wendy (quite rightly)bought a domain name a while back which Gillian NOW has decided she wants to own... And Wendy wants to keep it. Gillian is mad dat she canna have the said domain name, and is havin a "paddy" aboot it.... Dunna ken much aboot copyrights an aa dat, but I tink Gillian has gone aboot dis aa da wrong way... Wendy is a fine wife, an I ken dat if she could have sorted aa dis oot withoot press bein involved, she wid have ...
shetlandpeat
The paper said this... However, after Mrs Ramsay started the Shetland Teddybear Company, Mrs Inkster went out and bought up the internet domain names Shetland Teddy Bears and Shetland Teddy Bear Company, which point surfers to Burra Bears. This has been going on for as long as domain names were made available. I am not sure though of then using it to perhaps redirect folk, as it seems is what is happening. Perhaps the first act of aggressive business practice was started there. Buying the domain names personally I think is ok, they are available to buy, but then using them to enhance your business like this could be seen as say, underhand. Is that healthy competition? According to the paper, the Burra Bear Company has to remove The Shetland Teddy Bear Company from its bumf and web sites, this then would allow the two to be clearly apart and let the folk who shop make up their minds, toy or ornament. Quote from Shetland Times I could not see the part where The Shetland Teddy Bear Company demands the domain name.
kittybee
The paper said nothing about Gillian wanting to own the domain name, Its just my personal opinion after reading all the blurb that this may be the case?
shetlandpeat
So, spreading poop. The nearest to the truth we have is the newspaper. At the moment.

shetlandpeat
I think Burra Bear Company had already set the stage by going right to the Nationals and publishing correspondence. I am not sure what the thinking is there. If the new letter is true then it is no real surprise. Folk can be quite nasty if they think no one knows who they are.How many comments and accounts have been deleted from these forums for their personal remarks, many. We even know who some of them are as well. This is really a small thing that need not have come to get the attention is does not warrant.
kittybee
So, spreading poop. The nearest to the truth we have is the newspaper. At the moment. No, I was merely casting my personal opinion/ views on the matter - not a crime! Is this not what this forum is all about?
shetlandpeat
Ah, it seemed you had other knowledge. The facts that really can be quoted could only come from a source that is recognised, it seems that some of the gossip has been made up and does not represent the facts fairly, therefore it is poop. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I think this has all been blown out of proportion by rumour, gossip and some pernicious posting. I also think that the initial deed that caused the upset is also in the paper and quoted earlier has not been contested. This, from the paper seems to be the root of the complaint. kittybee
no other knowledge apart from my own personal take on things. I suspect quite a few folk on here have more "inside knowledge" though...
shetlandpeat
Me too, perhaps they should not divulge as sometimes things can bounce the wrong way. I personally do not understand why it is such big news at this early stage. It is good that not all communications have not been put into the public domain. kittybee
This thread, like many others, is full of gossip, speculation and folks opinions. That is what happens on a public forum. I just hope that both Wendy and Gillian can sort things out quickly and cheaply.
