paulb
I must be missing something here,I can get the medicine I need for my dogs Online for half the price but you need a prescription and register them Online. They ask for a prescription from my vet which is £12 so I have no choice to get it here as the cost would be the same.By the way there is a dispensing charge of £2 It is just having no choice that bothers me. its because the stuff you need is POM. i think there is one company that has its own vet. but i think its safer to have your own vet give you the script. could you not get a repeat one. we have had some massive bills recently but never thought the meds were too expensive. apart from wormers ect that are nearly double that of the internet. same with spot on stuff. sadly we need the vets and like every thing else we need to use them or we could lose them. tooney1
As annoying as it is, there are lots of online retailers that do this, and I don't think you can really describe it as a scam if they clearly show the price before you pay. From their perspective we represent a very small minority of the UK, and they want to push their free delivery that applies to 99% of buyers. We just need to encourage more places to use Royal Mail!Unfortunately Royal Mail did themselves unrepairable damage with strikes a couple of Xmas's back. That's when most sizeable online retailers moved away from them / spread their eggs and started using more couriers.
DizzyKipper
Repeat prescriptions are entirely up to the vet. They don't like giving prescriptions as obviously they lose the merkup on the drugs. They have to give them out if you ask, but as you have found out they can charge. There was a scheme a while back that made them free, not that vets publicised it. Then they put the charge back. As a rule I find the vet's prices aren't too bad, and if your pet is insured then it won't be a bother. However, the usual refusal to provide repeat prescriptions or longer than a month, means you have to factor in the £10/12 for teh prescription if you want to save money. If your pet drugs are *really* expensive then if might be worth getting them on the net. The place I get food/wormers/anti-flea stuff has free delivery. I want to save money but at the same time I wouldn't want to lose the vet.
sandnesspeats
Yes I agree we have to use them or lose them but some of the prices seem a tad high,The thing is the drugs I need are a prescription so have no choice to get them from the vet even though on-line are half the price,I just think it is just not fair at all. DizzyKipper
No you don't. Ask the vet for a prescription, they will charge £10/12. Then send the prescription with your order to the online pharmacy who will send it all back. If you can get a repeat prescription (good luck in getting that), then that would save you some money. You just have to factor in the cost of the prescription, plus depending on where you go onlinr, delivery costs) and decide if it's worth it. Plus remember if the vet only supplies in one month quantities, you're relying on couriers/north boat to maintain supply.
