jcoleman
I am looking to buy some friends a sheepskin rug as a wedding present and was just wondering if anyone knew where the best place I could get one from would be? Thanks
MJ
I usually get mine fae Andersons, they're good shetland skins, but are processed south, none of the bad smell some skins can have. (I've had 4 from them)
DizzyKipper
I got two from [***Mod edit- At users request***], but if you put your nose to it at the skin side you can indeed smell it... My feet don't smell it though and that side is to the carpet.

DizzyKipper
PMSL - the smell probably is from ya feet; oops, I is baaadddddd. If they smell, I'm sure it's not dead sheep or whatever it is they do to the skin side it was a couple of years ago now, they were only £25 each when I got them. paulb
if it smells of dead sheep its not been done right. it needs to be salted or frozen as soon as it is off the sheep.
DizzyKipper
I don't know what dead sheep smells like, but it definitely had an odour that wasn't too pleasant. The skin side is like white suede.
paulb
it could just be the chemicals they used. you would know if it was rotting.

DizzyKipper
it could just be the chemicals they used. you would know if it was rotting. Could be, one skin was stronger than the other. It's definitely not rotting, and other than the smell which you only notice it if put it to your nose really, they are lovely.
Frances144
Never known any of mine to smell and I have a few scattered around the house. Floors and backs of sofas/chairs.
shetlandpeat
Our never smelled either, we got ours from our favourite youngest Uncle. I cannot think of anything worse than having a stinky rug!
lita860
Hi, just seen this - The only smell you should get is a leather smell from the back and that will wear off over time. Any dodgy smell is poor tanning or indeed preserved not tanned. Our name has been mentioned (nearly correct) Chris and Lita Robinson, catch us on Facebook Shetland Sheepskin Products or 01595 860372. We will be at Vidlin Farmers market tomorrow and Clickimin Craft Fair Friday, Saturday, Sunday next week.
