Now if you use 60 litres of fuel a week, that is a saving of £3 a week. Unless you are on the ferry every week and use less than 120 L a week, I may agree. Though there are other factors, as an inhabitant of Shetland, you get the ferry cheaper than I do and the others encouraged to boost the economy. The way things are going, most products may come through Tesco, so they keep prices low, don't they? I do remember paying over £50 each way on my last P&O ferry trip and less than £60 return on Northlink, so for many it could still be seen as value against the P&O prices, more than 40% cheaper, still. Though you would need to live near a supermarket in a city or large town to benefit. There would be little you could do.Alas, folk will not abstain from buying fuel as a protest, another way is to find a cheaper alternative, gas seems to be cheaper.Electric is another option, but no doubt the initial cost will be out of reach.Out in the sticks here in Lancashire folks experience the same costs, but no 5p discount.If you have no real reason to own a car, don't. The odd day you might, it may be cheaper to hire, that is what I do.I sorta wonder about cars and the like, my Grannie and Grandad never had one yet knew so many folk, we think we need something but you will be suprised how you can get by and change your life by not having it.That could be the best way, of getting the message across.I doubt there will be any protests except here in numbers and a few posts on the Times/News. Direct action may be the only way, but to openly protest and blockade depots will not happen in Shetland, folk will not really be asked, they will just carry on with a little grumble. Perhaps there is no one on the Islands who have the bottle to start such a campaign, it sorta fits in with having to hire top folk from south. shame really. Seems that the cost of fuel is the most important and it's rise not seen.Meanwhile anyone who works in the oil industry continues to rake it in.
