Okay, I haven't had a sex change and forgive me for jumping in, Stilldellin - lekky company sent us letters the other week.

Ohhhh ok. Not to do with the burning pole then :)

Funnily enough, I've just had a call from the lekky board. Apparently, 3 insulators or summat had gone during a lightning strike and they had only just discovered them. When I said about the last time I was aware we'd had a thunder storm in Shetland (Although I appreciate weather down here can be different to a few miles away at the same time, so to speak), and only after mentioning that an Engineer advised me last night about the burning pole, did the lekky guy admit to the burning pole.

He was unaware of the planned outage today but then said that they had hoped not to disrupt the supply today. So I asked if it was going off at all today or is the planned work due for another day. I also pointed out that if all along it was not going to be off from 9am to 5pm, then why not word the letter stating that it would be going off "some time between 9am and 5pm". He's going to get somebody to revert to me ...

Edit: Just had a phone call. Power WILL be going off another day for nearly ALL day. I have suggested they explain what work they are doing and why off which is being given due consideration.

:? :?

OK which day, and is that just the people who had letters or those affected by the burning pole, or something else?

*confused*

Hey DK, you seem to be got yourself into a serious buckle over this power business. The burning pole at Brindister yesterday evening was entirely unrelated to todays planned outage which will no doubt be rescheduled and further letters sent out to all relevant customers... :)

Well then I'm very happy because I got no letter. :D

However someone else I know spoke to one the people doing the work, and they said there is to be an all day power cut for the whole of south mainland, not sure when but probably next week!

Does anyone in the power company actually know what's going on?

I think it's just a wait and see thing :(

DK, they do know what is going on and I have suggested they let us, their customers, know what work they are doing. They have suggested a provisional date but it wasn't next week; however, this may change (I voiced my concern as the date concerned falls on one of my busy days and was in a different week). They have told me part of the work they are doing; some of it is down near the airport. Apparently they have quite a few things for us pleps down the sarf end in order to provide a more stable supply (But to be honest, they say that EVERY year)

They may have felt that they made things better by not going ahead with the planned work yesterday; to me, it didn't.

I don't buy into the not being able to let peeps know either. In this day and age, people can register their mobile numbers with companies and with computer telecom programs, it takes seconds to send a message to hundreds of customers. Granted, not everyone has a mobile phone but there are other means of communication. In addition, it is not as if South Mainland is the most densely populated area in the UK.

In any event, the planned works, now without a fixed date, will occur within the next month. Will keep you posted!

  • 1 month later...

So that lot that think they can manage to send electricity to the Scottish Mainland if they get their wind-farm have just given me a power cut in Yell on a nice sunny day with little wind and I guess no thunderstorms. Would not mind so much except that I lost a long letter I was writing on the computer since I did not think to save it every few minutes on such a nice day.

So if anyone from SSE is reading this perhaps you would like to try telling us why you think we ought to trust you to do anything and meanwhile do you think as I do that every customer ought to get compensation for every power cut?.

I guess you have not purchased a service with your desired Service Level Agreement. Otherwise, insted of moaning, you would be telling us how much compensation you got?

Why not get a UPS for your computer ?
