My opinion is they are a rip-off, very cursury look over the property, then back to the office to fill in the blanks in the Home Report templates, £600 please! P.S. you'll be hard pushed to take action over any inaccuracies discovered in the report further down the line, check the terms and conditions practically nothing in the report is stood over. I do agree what you say about cursery glance - I recently had a chartered surveyor look at the home report I received on a house I am in the process of buying - they said the the home report is vague - wouldn't stand up legally and would take only 30 mins to prepare after the visit.
