wastafirth 01
Thinking on getting rid of our Sky subscription but was wondering if I did and continued to use the sky box as a free-to-view box, would the recording function and series link etc still work? Anybody with experience of this?
zebedee
No, you would lose Sky+/ You can pay £5 (possible more now) per month to keep sky+.Alternatively you can buy a freesat box with a hard drive to get similar functions. For more info on that try islesat, they have a range of them.
wastafirth 01
Thanks for this info. I'll weigh up the options - it's got to be cheaper than paying for loads of channels/repeats we never watch!
mitzy
You still get lots of repeats on Freesat but you only pay once to install!
JordanKZ
Freesat+ and Freesat+ HD are your best bets. Bare in mind, if you do get a Freesat box, it'll have at completely different EPG (user interface). So if you're used to what you have now with Sky, this might annoy you quite a lot. Fjool
I use a Humax Foxsat which was plugged into an old Sky dish for ages. I replaced the dish with a better one with quad-LNB and get all the features of Sky+ without the recurring costs. Total cost ~£200 for decoder, dish and installation. Anybody with experience of this? Not sure about sky+ but the basic sky box I gave up my Sky subscription three years ago I got the free-to-view without any problems.
