peeriebryan
In case anyone is wondering, I changed the name of the thread to 'Advertising' to better reflect how the discussion has progressed With regards to Google Ads, I signed up for that when Shetlink first started. I was happy with the revenue being earned and the unobtrusive and relevant contents of their advertising. However, after about a month, they terminated my account without warning and kept all the revenue generated. I assumed there had been some sort of mistake, so I appealed against their decision several times. All they did was send me the same auto generated email saying about how much they valued their advertisers and how they had to protect them from fraud. At no stage did they explain why I had been banned. I was most displeased, although it seems to be very common practice for Google to do this. Stick 'google' 'ads' & 'banned' into a search engine. A lot of people have had a lot of money 'confiscated' by Google with no explanation Just now I'm trying to suss out how we can block the annoying heavily animated ads mentioned earlier in the thread. I'll hopefully have something organised later tonight
peeriebryan
I've managed to filter the ads, so I've reactivated them (near the bottom left of each page) If anyone has any concerns about the ads, or the pages they link to, let me know and I'll look into it
JAStewart
www.yesadvertising.com Its the best one. every 1000 hits you get like $2 and its totally hidden, just a popup which is blocked by google toorbar anyway. I use it.
peeriebryan
just a popup which is blocked by google toorbar anyway. I use it. Cheers for the suggestion, but we decided not to use pop-ups as they are infuriating! I know most folk have pop-up blockers, but quite a few don't. JustMe
This is getting most confusing.......Shetlink now seems to be talking to me. Strange voice has replaced the flashing adverts........either that or my sanity is more in question than I thought it was.

JustMe
Oh dear, those nasty little "you have won our hourly prize" type adverts have started showing up at the top of the page. Is this a Shetlink thing or something to do with my ISP?.
McFly
It's Shetlink JustMe. Don't worry about your ISP. Our highly skilled (?) technicians are currently working on code to filter out all the nasty ads. We'll have it sorted soon.
Ghostrider
Are we tinkering and tweaking again? What's the deal with the (un-necessary??) horizontal and vertical scroll bars on the header Ads? Not an improvement IMHO. Or am I the only one getting them?
trout
I've not been aware of scrollbars on the ads, no! I wonder ... what screen size are you using?

Ghostrider
just a popup which is blocked by google toorbar anyway. I use it. Cheers for the suggestion, but we decided not to use pop-ups as they are infuriating! I know most folk have pop-up blockers, but quite a few don't. What about pop-unders? This site gives me an occasional one once in a while.... Wasn't entirely sure where they were coming from, or what they were for before as I closed them from the task bar without looking at them, but got one earlier tonight when this was the only site I had open and it was one of those all singing all dancing near full screen types for a Casino.... Not really an issue, I can deal with closing out of them as long as there's no more than have been, just wondering if they're actually supposed to be here after reading the quoted statement? Pooks
I certainly haven't noticed any pop-overs, pop-ups or pop unders when browsing Shetlink. Unless Firefox is blocking them on my side (although it would usually let me know) then I reckon something more sinister is lurking on your machine Ghostrider. Try running a few spyware/adware scanners and see what it throws up. Ewido is a particular favourite of mine --> http://www.ewido.com/
