daveh
I am a Londoner and moved to Shetland in April 2008. I am very much a Shetlander in spirit now and have involved myself in many Shetland events. I bought a full-sized Shetland flag within 3 months of arriving here and proudly displayed it last June 21st and also yesterday. If I am happy to do so then I wonder why so few others don't. Njugle
We fly the Shetland flag when we have Shetland visitors, and along with the Norwegian flag on special days A good point. Around here we should be flying English, Scottish, Welsh Shetland, Norwegian, Faroese, New Zealand, Australian and any other potentially welcoming flags at this time of year. Particularly during the Hamefarin.

Thank you . I want you to know that to hear this means so, so much to me and indeed if only more would follow your example. Well done and keep that flag flying but not just on certain days of the year!.
daveh
Thank you so much for the nice reply. My wife and I had previously holidayed twice in Shetland and were both quite emotional both times we went home as we loved it here so much. Everyone that we have met, here in Cunningsburgh and beyond, have been so very welcoming to us since we moved here and we have made far more friends here than we ever had down south. From day one, we ensured that we got involved in going to various events and joining different groups and this has also enabled us to settle in very quickly. We cannot now imagine living anywhere else in the world now hence our immense pride at displaying "our" flag.Thank you again. piggywiggie
We have an England flag in our front porch window for the world cup(English partner) we were going to stick our Shetland flag up but I couldn't find it!
Paul G
We usually have Shetland Flags on our car's for Shetland Events, as my Wife and Four children are born and bred here and I first moved here in 1991 and absolutely love this Island and it's People, I am respected by many people, However, as I am English and have England flags on my car I can not believe the animosity from some small minded people. I even had two fingers stuck up at me whilst our Kids were in the car and my five year old son asked me, "Daddy why did that bad boy do that?" It's hard trying to explain to a child that Racism isn't just about the colour of your skin, If it helps I will put a Shetland flag on the Cars as well as the England ones, cheers Paul G
piggywiggie
I was born and brought up here, never intend on leaving. Would be too hard! But although I was born here my partner moved here fromEngland to be with me and we have an English flag. When we go to music things south we take out Shetland flag. So we fly both. What does annoy me are folk who are so anti English, they don't hate us! In someways perhaps they should as somepeople are so nasty to them. We are all British. What really does me head in is my brothers, well two of them! They are so anti English! It annoys me even more since my partner is English! Makes me embarassed to say they are me brothers acting like that! Needless to say I avoid talking to them during world cup!!! Haha
daveh
As a fellow disappointed Englishman this evening, I would suggest that maybe it is time to put the English flag away now!
