Marvin
I blame the end of 'Top of the Pops' on Fern Cotton. discuss.....
Tomblands
I BLAME it on her RANDOM exageratting OF words, but she gets away with it. I think the blame lands at the feet of Andi Peters, whoever thought "hey, you know that guy who sat in the broom cupboard and had his hand up Edd the Duck's ass? Lets get him to produce Top of the Pops".
Jonners
I blame it on this multi-channel age we live in. Fern Cotton is wonderful in every way!
Njugle
Fern Cotton is wonderful in every way! Yep, you canna blame the lovely Fern. Andy Peters can take the flak on this one, in fact i'll blame him for the content of the charts too. Highly strung ambitious little control freak that he is. david
I blame it on this multi-channel age we live in. Yep. A lot of teenagers spend their afternoons flicking through the music channels, hoping from channel to channel to find songs they like. Why would they then sit through 30 minutes of music to see maybe a couple of songs they like?
Tomblands
I used to like Top of the Pops 2 whenever it was on, there never seemed to be a regular timeslot for it, it just got stuck on to fill in time.
Twerto
I blame the internet for wakening up a wider group of people to the knowledge that pop music is as plastic and false as it gets..
JustMe
Twerto wrote I blame the internet for wakening up a wider group of people to the knowledge that pop music is as plastic and false as it gets.. In my opinion the above statement is wrong. There are some people out there producing good music and even when the music might not be what I would call good if it brings pleasure to someone who am I to argue. I take for my example the "Spice Girls". Certainly not my kind of music but they made a lot of little girls happy.....perhaps a few boys as well. turrifield
I blame the Talaban!
breeksy
Also - in my experience, most kids start out listening to pop music before moving on to bigger and better things. Its great to have something so easily accessible for kids to 'get' - I came up with a great analogy, but decided I couldn't really use it - but for those interested it compared pop music to a 'gateway' substance - if you get my drift. Ally
I blame top of the pops for being hopelessly uncool for decades and generally being crap! There were a few good moment on it though. The manic street preachers doing ‘Faster’ (most complaints on the show ever) was my personal highlight. .

Kurt mimed, and made it blatantly obvious that he did.
david
Did Oasis not appear once, and they were upset that they HAD to mime, so Bonehead took the place of Liam, Noel went on drums etc...
Jordan
I hope they put the saved revenue into more 'Later with Jools Holland'. It surely is the best music show on the BBC.
ChristopherWilliamThomson
In this age of instantly disposable music (I see the majority of alternative bands under this heading too) is it a surprise that Top Of The Pops too has been put in the rubbish bin?
