jewels
Parkour, or free running, scares the SH1T out of me, but I absolutely love to see it. We've all been there - done things we wouldn't want our children to do - but for goodness sake, they're doing that wonderful, young, abandoned thing we've all done (or secretly, desperately wanted to do). Please don't be so borrriiingg with all the whining and moaning! It's brilliantly wonderful to see folk expressing themselves and being outside instead of glued to the screen! More power to their elbow (and all the other joints!). J x
shetlandpeat
One of the great things about my time in Lerwick during the summer over the decades was being able to stay out till very late due to the light nights, we would play kerby until who knows what time down Goodlad Cres. No one complained then, it was great. We would get up to all sorts, over all sorts, through all sorts and had a full filled day.I sort of wonder about the nature of Shetland adults nowadays. We were let to be children, mess in the mud, go up the hill and have a party, same at the Sletts and the Knab. The torpedo tubes were always good as was the Street. We never really got up to much without a family friend or family seeing us and reporting back if there was any concern. I don't ever remember anyone writing a letter in the Times complaining. It is sad that the adult residents of Shetland appear to be turning into Victor and Victoria Meldrew. Can this be really the case. I certainly hope not.I would despair if Shetland started to get like the mainland of the UK and the negative attitude of those who knew how to complain got their way. Being a youngster here is hard hard work. You only need to fart and neighbours will ring the police. Shetland was a place I as a child could be free and be a child. unlinkedstudent
that is not the proper group. its not their fault if there are idiots out there. have you spoken to any of these evil youths bet not. you have a car so does that make you guilty of all the speeding drink driving. the proper club is supervised and are a nice group of young folks and . please speak to them if you see them you will be surprised. i did not know there was much of it going on down the south end. please think a little unlink trying to make out these kids are vandals is wrong. Then I suggest you take a closer look at some of the examples on youtube, Paul - SOME were posted by those involved in the 'proper club'. Just because I live in the sarf end doesn't mean I don't have the right to comment on how come Environmental Health sponsored this event or how property is being damaged/misused. I'm not, for the record, saying that all those attending are vandals but the point I've been attempting to make since the beginning of this thread is that there will be some who do not follow the 'guidelines'. Why on earth do you think I'd be surprised that those attending the event were a nice group of folks?

unlinkedstudent
^ Gosh, and there I was thinking of giving it a whirl along the lines of "Don't knock it until you've tried it" - perish the thought, are those over 30 barred from participating then? grift
There's also a group parkouring (or whatever it called) late at night; very poor video quality but partly on a residential estate - I bet the residents were delighted.Personally, I think it great to hear young folk out and about being active in the evenings so don't assume it annoys everybody - all part of living living in a community. I'm sure if it was bothering the residents then they would call the police or, perish the though, go out and ask them to keep it down.
chrisgrantgpc
AS someone above mentioned - has anyone managed to isolate a specific incident where this has actually been an issue?I know zog posted about wall damage, but failed to speciy location when I asked, as I said we would be happy to be careful in that area. ^ Gosh, and there I was thinking of giving it a whirl along the lines of "Don't knock it until you've tried it" - perish the thought, are those over 30 barred from participating then? Unlinked, you are welcome to come a long and give it a try. i'm nearly 30 and there's people in my class in Glasgow up to about 55, who only train outdoors and enjoy the fact that this is something they did when they were younger. Only thing is though, you would have to buy a ticket, and I get the impression you wouldnt want to be subsidising such an activity........

If my GP reckoned my hip would be up to it, I'd be willing to give it a whirl! I do, however, appreciate the fact that you have confirmed that it is not just for youngsters. As for me subsidising such an activity, I fail to see how by paying my way I personally would be subsidising it.

Siccar
What I intend to do is to move to somewhere I like, then when I am there, point oot all da faults I see in this place. (For Shetlanders appreciate that more than anything?)For if it wisna for the internet I wid come across as a bitter old witch that would mostly be ignored by those who have a (remote) relationship with sanity.Empty vessels make the loudest noise.Keep it JOLLY? Far too chicken to have a go at a Shetlander then eh? Perish the thought that a born and bred Shetlander would have a go at this activity because some have. Yeah, I'm vocal - but at least I ain't two-faced. Witch = Wiccan = Wise. Cheers! Edit: And perish the thought that some of us know this activity takes place nationwide and isn't just restricted to Shetland.
