Was wondering if Serco know anything about Shetland geography, got a mail shot yesterday for East Isle. I know DWP/HMRC count many ZE2 9 postcodes as Fetlar, but East Isle is Skerries apparently, and there's not much west of here.

so the new boss of serco/northlink will be based in aberdeen, and going amongst the locals to get their veiws on norhtern island ferries. how many folk in aberdeen actually get the ferry to shetland or orkney?? would it not be better to ask orcadians and shetlanders how how to improve the service

Are you sure you haven't just heard that the way you wanted so you could have a whinge and a greet with the usual "dem sooth eens niver listen ta wis" crap

I would also think that far more use the Aberdeen Terminal, apart from those who travel Orkney to Shetland routes only.

It would be good I think for folk to be positivity involved with the transition. Especially as the crew and staff have to go through this period as well. Offering friendly advice would probably get a far better response (fodder for the cynics) than a constant whine of complaint. As we have already seen within these forum, the crew and staff have formed their own opinions in some cases. However, that would leave little room for the conspiracy mongers and the anally retentive posters.

Well sp the thing is they needn't bother IMO in the eyes of shetlinkers or even shetland as a whole no one will ever do a good job at running the north boat, no one.

lets be ohnest about northlink;

The boats are clean, the staff are decent. they have free sky tv in the bar the seats and cabins are comfortable , they are never normaly full, they run on schedule most of the time and arent that expensive ( a 3 hour crossing from stranraer to belfast for 1 car and 2 people was 370 pounds return).

Despite all that they'r the 2nd most hated organisation in shetland (no one comes close to the council obv) they'v had it all from "the boats are useless" da auld boat wid aa geed in dis" and "its aa dem scottys in da snp wit haes it in for wis dey hate shetland"

why would serco be any different. why even worry what the public think makes the service better all it will do is make some people even more resentfull

after all if they're not p&o taking 5 days to sail via stromness then they must be sh1te. but you could go into stromness and have a pint and a bag of chips in da gud old days

Well Serco is who we have so let us all, ships crew, shore based staff, passengers and cargo shippers give them a chance to see what they can do. I have already seen one good thing in the mailshot........"flat bed style reclining seats on the Lerwick route". Now that has to be good for people without cabins. And the manager they have hired seems to know a bit about running ferries. Indeed he also seems to know a bit about negotiating with unions so let's hope the threat of strikes recedes.

^ Thought VE was the most hated organisation in Shetland now with SCT running close to the SIC?

Tis all well and good some peeps telling us to get involved with Serco - if you couldn't attend the meetings, they hadn't published a telephone number so will be interesting to get this mail drop info.

from 2013 high season will run from april 1 till oct 31, the rest of the year will be low season. what happened to mid season? flat bed recliner and how much wil they cost, be tthey are not free. and apparently the only way to get a meal in the restraunt will be to get ticket for premium cabins, serco introducing calss system again me thinks

Maybe but maybe not. As I read the release about peak season and so on it was talking about frequency of crossings on the Pentland Firth route and not prices. Remember prices are controlled by the government. As for an on-board class system why not?. Trains and planes have different classes as do lots of ships. Want to pay for something better than the standard offering and have the money to do so then good luck.

So what, it is always empty when I have been on the boat. I normally bring my own food. It is a bit healthier and cheaper.

Let them introduce your calss system, if no one uses it, then they will change it. (I bet they do use it) They may have to put blinds up to stop us proletariats from seeing them lick their knives.

I would imagine the company can be contacted, even if they did omit to include a number. Folk manage to find my number and ring it up, yet unable to find one for a huge company like Serco, piffle mongering!

Oh, look what I found.. speaktostuart@northlinkferries.co.uk you can ask the man, well, his team, yourself, and offer constructive criticism and advice.

As I said
