It's all well and good for those who can afford it, but many people in hospital, especially for extended periods, simply are not in a position to pay for it, and are now denied the use of the donated TV's.The day rooms still have big TVs plus the bays on some wards (eg, the oncology ward I was on) had both. Some bays on some wards didn't have the Hospedia sets. Some bays were in the process of being fitted.(2011) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Frances144 Posted May 13, 2012 Report Share Posted May 13, 2012 At Woodend Hospital, Aberdeen, there are a few tellies scattered about in the wards that go on at 10am (full volume) and off at midnight even if no one watches them. There is no internet and mobile phones are BANNED. They are rabid about the use of them in the wards so if you are looking at the internet on yours' they will go bonkers about that too despite assurances that you are not using the phone, talking to anyone, answering calls or letting folk text you. RABID!(I ended up leaving my empty ward to stand by the fire escape in the snow, having had extensive spinal surgery 2 days before, to talk to my daughter who was being interviewed for Oxford that day to wish her luck.) Well, you know how it left me but honestly, words absolutely failed me (so probably just as well I was not allowed to use my mobile anywhere on the ward!) They were bullies. Fifi Posted May 14, 2012 Report Share Posted May 14, 2012 It must be terrible, how can anyone possibly survive the living Hell that is an area without internet or mobile access.........While I was in and out of hospital in Aberdeen through most of last year for ops & 8hr stints on the drip for chemo (radiotherapy was quick so not so applicable), having access to family & friends far away made such a difference.
