Dundeecom fury at Scottish Government’s ‘frivolous spending’ on city’s rival portJust read this and thought there must be some kind of mistake.After reading so many negative opinions on Shetlink regarding the SNP Scottish government you would've thought they had some kind of vendetta against us here in Shetland.Yet here they are investing tax payers money into decommissioning in Shetland, furthering our chances of winning business while angering SNP voting Dundee who have had no such help and have relied solely on private money to try and win decommissioning business.SNP voting Dundee (near the central belt) are up in arms, accusing the Scottish government of creating an uneven playing field, unfairly helping us here in Shetland almost like whatever the opposite of centralisation is.Could this be yet another example of "what have the Romans ever done for us"?...copyright Monty Python You may have a point, but on the other hand the fact that its cheaper to do here than in Dundee, plus it keeps 'dirty' and 'noisy' stuff well out of sight, mind and earshot of the central belt, rather than any particular show of benevolence towards us, is also a fair point IMHO. The Dundee dude sorta has a point about uneven playing field, but when there's just one cheque, and multiple contenders, there's always multiple losers, that's just basic arithmetic, and happens every time things, whatever they are, shakedown that way. Caithness got the space launching thingy, Unst didn't. I don't hear whatisface, the carpetbagger o' Saxa greetin over that one, so Mr. Dundee is just enjoying throwing his toys out of his pram a bit more than he has justification for - He'll maybe regret it when he calms down and realises he has to go and pick them all up again by himself if he wants them back again. bug Posted October 20, 2018 Report Share Posted October 20, 2018 (edited) This (current) Scottish government investment (our money btw) in Dales Voe (frowned upon by detractors in Dundee et al) is no more than a double edged sword that will be perceived by many to be a win(d), Win(d). Yes a good location for decommissioning of the oily stuff (my first point) but it is primarily being designed for the landing of big {'f' }-off wind turbine components.
