Noctilucent cloud

Not noctilucent, but nice! I like clouds.

Maybe we should have a 'sky' topic for weather pics... clouds, rainbows, sunsets, sundogs, etc.?

Well we already have a " Sky at Night " topic, maybe " The Sky by Day " ? just wondering how much storage on Shetlink .

I upload my photos to Photobucket then link to them. It saves Shetlink's space.

Yep, already use photobucket AT, my statement was more of a sweeping generalisation, I had this image of millions of holiday sunsets appearing on Shetlink !

As I suggested to stilldellin afore - all you guys who are good with the camera should join the Facebook page. I hugely enjoy being on George Graham’s ‘Shetland on Camera’ – there are superb photos to enjoy daily, everyone is very nice to one another – fine change fae Shetlink then! – and there's been a peerie bit of reddin up kin going on as well.

I think you have to be invited to join by a group member and George is - wisely - not on Shetlink but you could PM me your Facebook name and I could add you - there are 740 of us in the group.

Or - more straightforwardly and perhaps courteously - just look on Facebook for George Graham in Mossbank and ask him directly - it's his group.

I agree that sadly Shetlink is being strangled to death and has degenerated into a launching platform for hurling abuse by certain individuals but at least you can take it or leave it. Where else can you get told you are innumerate and illiterate just because you don't particularily like something ! I feel by signing up for Facebook I will drag myself into an ever escalating time consuming tie that at this stage I feel I cannot commit myself but thanks FDC for your advice in the meantime.

We have groups on Flickr and other depositories. It is quite easy to do and folk can add their own images. Photobucket is a popular method, it is one I use.

Who are 'we' in this instance? And what would be the reason to put photos on any of these sites?

Fair. A lot of my life happens on Facebook as it has become the most efficient means of organising (debating) tournaments and associated events, plus I have recently had two people approach me for a business reference via Fb message, etc. I am therefore on it every day and it is such a pleasure to have George's photos just pop up among all the work and comment stuff without having to go specially to Photobucket or any other photo-specific site.

Your occasional pictures are one of the few things that still keep me looking at Shetlink despite all the ghastliness perpetrated by those who seem intent on destroying it as a community resource! Best wishes F.

Us here. There are several history groups who use photo deposits to share and be able to link to forum, similar to this one. Does it really matter?

Reasons are quite abound, check it out. Preference?

OK - history groups. See below.

Am absolutely none the wiser. Check what out where? I just wondered - as a fairly-keen-on-techie-stuff-despite-my-age person, why I would add another site to everything that Fb and Twitter can do. Stilldellin explained clearly why he (he? - assumption) doesn't want the hassle of another tab to open - I thought that you, as a fan of Flickr and PB, might explain to me, as someone who doesn't see the point of them, in what way they are advantageous.

Doesn't matter - I find Fb's ability to share with me photos from all over the world quite awesome. Did you and your friends waste any time giving Google+ and its circles a go and then just give up like the rest of us as everything was still on Facebook anyway?

Sorry Mods - this thread has moved entirely away from the subject of unusual clouds to the means by which one might best share photos thereof ...

I have a feeling folk seem to be happy just to share their images, therefore not to bothered about the ownership some of these site claim.

It takes quite a bit to organise, the Shetland Past and Present site on FB I believe has had a steep learning curve to climb. It looks as if they are sorting it out. It is pleasing to see some folk comment on folk you hold as special. There have been some cracking auld images of photos uploaded, it seems to have brought allot of folk together who may not see each other anymore. It is an open group, there are plenty who can invite you. I have seen some images of pictures of my Mam I have never seen, even exchanged messages from folks who were at her and my Dads wedding.

May be that could be another reason.

stilldellin has quite a knack for images, though I think she may have invested in a camera that is far better than my phone.

You can enjoy and share photos between these hosts, it is not difficult.

Sorry for the earlier tone.

OK so how do you find that then? I typed the name into Fb and all it came up with was a 'Grand National' page featuring racing ponies ...

Try this link, I have yet had little success in doing these links but will try again.

Well - that took my entire afternoon! Thank you so much. By the time I had trailed through all 3,000 folk in the group, discovered one set of cousins have got their house sold, a more distant bunch have changed jobs and moved to Aberdeen, somebody else has got engaged and one of the babies is learning to swim - have got nothing else done at all! Now - all the old prints in the drawer, and the scanner, and it's raining ...

Good link HH, yep the ever increasing methane levels would seem to be a contributer so the chances are we will always be seeing more NC's providing of course the sky is clear.

Nice clouds tonight :-
