Internet problems?

On Hogmany I received the following from Talk Talk -

We have received an update from BT Openreach advising that they are unable to see any recent speed tests. Is it possible to run some further speed tests from http://speedtester.bt.com at various times of the day. Please let us know once this has been completed, we can then pass this fault back to BT Openreach for further investigation.

Which was followed a couple of hours later by -

We have received an update advising that BT OpenReach are unable to identify any faults on the line. If the its only peak time you are experiencing then it is likely that this is caused by congestion. We can pass this back for further investigation in which case the next step will be to arrange a BT OpenReach engineer to go to premises and investigate further. In order to do this we would require acceptance of possible charges and some availability.

People who complain that they don't get 7 or 8, should be grateful. Most of us don't get anything near that speed and never have!

I have been "online" since 2002 from home and dial up speed was just as quick as what my broadband speed is most days.

If I get anything near to 2 then that is a good day. I'm in Lerwick. I have complained to AOL lots of times but they always have said it's the exchange.

If that was the case then why is the whole of Lerwick not the same speeds?

It varies from street to street..

The only consistently worse off speeds that I know of than mine are in Gulberwick :(

After Talk Talk telling me upgrades to the exchange would make no difference to my speed and repeatedly ignoring my comments/requests on upgrading to the new faster service I received a letter today sayingI will be transferred to the new equipment on 24th January!

Hope it improves things!!

I'm finding the ADSL2+ slower than our old ADSL connections. I got moved over to the 21CN network by Plusnet a few days ago and my connection has some serious problems sustaining any kind of decent speeds.

Speedtest (slower than what I used to get, no where near what I should be...)

Steam download chart, just stopping at random. Doesn't matter what time of day I attempt to do this at.

Any ideas? I'm baffled to be honest.

Well, I think with 6.9Mb download and 1.09Mb upload, most people will suggest "be thankful and stop whingeing"

You say Plusnet only moved you over a few days ago. Have you actually followed their advice of giving the system time to learn to stabilise your line?

Trust me, it doesn't feel like 6.9Mbit down due to the fluctuations.

I wasn't actually given any advice at all. They just said to me I'd get moved over and that's that. But if it's a case of waiting, then that's fine. I just wanted to see if anyone else was having any problems, that's all :)

It apparently can take up to 10 days to settle.

As for everyone else who lives beyond the reach of the Lerwick upgrade, the real improvement is stability with the new fibre connection. From the day it went live, I haven't had a single dip in speed (a solid 1.2Mb woohoo!) or any disconnects as used to happen almost daily with the microwave link. It just goes to show how flaky the service was, and that BT's equipment had no idea where the problem lay (or it did and they simply lied to save face).

The sudden lack of activity on this thread is testament to this. Either that, or I am the only one who can still connect to Shetlink
