Hector's House
It's still improving slowly! And that's a "problem"? Boastfulness is not an attractive quality.. mind you nor is envy
trooter
Didn't say it was a problem, much improved from the 0.5 I got a few weeks ago. Then again it's not the 17Mb which BT thinks i should get. The problem i have been having since the upgrade is the connection dropping!
Hector's House
^ just a dig about the thread title But it is really good to see BT getting on with some upgrading, albeit begrudgingly. The stability is something that affects every user, and one day - just maybe - the rest of the exchanges will be brought up to speed.
owre-weel
Is is just me or has Shetlink ground to a halt? It's taken me around 15 mins to get this posted. Can nothing be done to speed things up as it just ends up with people switching off after getting scunnered.
MuckleJoannie
Iv ehad a bit of hassle myself trying to look at Shetlink. In my opinion the Scalloway broadband has got a lot worse since the ADSL 2 started being activated in Lerwick.
stilldellin
^ Yis owre-weel, Shetlink does seem to be on its last gasps, tried to post an answer on another thread a couple of hours back and had to give up...
owre-weel
^ Yis owre-weel, Shetlink does seem to be on its last gasps, tried to post an answer on another thread a couple of hours back and had to give up... Maybe someone heard me as it has just sped up again. It seems the problem is with the Shetlink servers as my speed is fine tonight and all other sites were working fine, but Shetlink was dreadful. stilldellin
^ Looks like sheer quantity of traffic on Shetlink is the problem, I think there is a big debate going on about some windfarm that may be causing some interest !

Hector's House
Quite often I have similar issues getting Shetlink to respond - I believe that a lot of the problems are down to the adverts. Sometimes the main part of the page will appear, but cannot be clicked on until the side or top advert has finished loading - which on occasions seems to stall. Add to that the times when I get the error page littered with SQL gibberish and it makes Shetlink a very frustrating experience.
stilldellin
^ I blocked my ads just to see and it made no difference at all so don't think it's that.....
Hector's House
Ah, but if you read up on what adblockers can actually do, it isn't always block ads! It apparently depends on how intimately the ad placement is in the page programming.. so often you see a blank space but the ad is still loaded. Great, huh? unlinkedstudent
In my opinion the Scalloway broadband has got a lot worse since the ADSL 2 started being activated in Lerwick. I agree with you re broadband outwith Lerwick getting worse. Despite speed tests indicating that I'm getting a higher speed, in reality, several sites are a lot slower, including direct connections to some of my clients' PCs.
