Hector's House
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2569281780.pngDon't think it's just you Righter. I guess it might be weather issues much further south. Edit: Just checked my router data, which shows the DSL had reconnected at about 5pm, so maybe there was an outage somewhere that has messed with the profiling equipment. righter
thank you, that's useful to know. I don`t think an outage can change the IP profile though..speed yes...unless anyone knows differently.
Hector's House
thank you, that's useful to know. I don`t think an outage can change the IP profile though..speed yes...unless anyone knows differently. My experience is that it seems that the exchange equipment can't tell if the line issues are up- or downstream, so cuts the IP profile to fit with what it senses it can deliver. This happened repeatedly with me whenever the microwave link faded, but maybe I am more susceptible to re-profiling because I am at the far end of a bit of wet string rather than decent copper The annoying part is that despite the issue not being local, the exchange then had to re-learn the line stability which could take a day or two before the profile got back up to anything usable. Well that's how it feels to me. I've italicised the disclaimer in case Marvin or the Hairy One come on & show this to be a puddle of pish
Hector's House
^ Forgot to say that rebooting the router often gets the profile back up (for me...), no idea why that works when the "intelligent" system should be doing that automatically Just gone from 0.9 to 1.7 which will do for me. righter
Hector, thanks again...I did not know about re-profiling due to drop.
Hector's House
Gah! I didn't do a speed test when I rebooted... just tried to watch summat on youtube & found I am still stuck at half my "proper" rate. Still, can't complain*, that's the first drop for ages. *but I will anyway

love06
I have recently had internet issues, where my PC, although shown connected to internet, couldn't connect to any website, but is able to do so after a cold reboot. What is the problem?Probably the result of clicking on too many spam links is this true? I had an experience with this kind of issue last day.--love
CHUCK NORR1S
Anyone having issues with their PING at the moment? Over the last 3 days mine has gone from a manageable 80 to 130-150, which is no use to me when gaming. My download/upload - 7.00/0.35 are sitting stable and have been since i switched over to ADSL2. I called Plusnet last night who have confirmed this is the case but tell me there isn't much they can do about the ping. I've switched the router on/off, all new filters are in place and when I'm gaming all other wifi etc is off in the house other than the SKY connection which i've tried switching on/off but makes no odds. Any ideas? Someone once said that ping problems could be weather related?
Hector's House
Plusnet here, ping has been ~75ms for a week and that's on the end of a long wet line. Shouldn't your upload speed have doubled when you moved on to adsl2+?
CHUCK NORR1S
Hi Hector, My upload speed hasn't changed since the switch over, it's always been around that mark. My download however has gone up from sitting around 3. My ping is normally around 70/80ish. What I do notice is that if i'm watching youtube or iPlayer in the evening then it will pause and I have to go to the START menu and re-connect to the wifi, which will cure it for 30mins then I have to do it again, I may have to do this 4/5 times over the course of an evening. Is this what people refer to as 'Dropouts'? I know the laptop isn't hard wired but my PS3 is and at the end of the day its the high ping thats annoying me, although it would be good to know what could be done about that 'dropout'(?) thing. Plusnet say all is fine. I'm in town and about half a mile from the exchange at the big kirk and the laptop is cleared weekly with Kaspersky and Spybot. Maybe its just a blip regarding the ping, might be back to normal in a few day, i hope
Hector's House
Ping aside, that sounds like you're not actually on adsl2+ - so close to the exchange you would expect to get pretty much full speed from regular adsl, being ("up to" as the sales pitch goes) 8/0.35. Have you got a modem compatible with the upgrade?
CHUCK NORR1S
Nope, router is a year old. I thought my speeds now were up to where they should be. I called Plusnet last night and I definately was switched over in January. I think I'll call back and see ehat the craic is regarding a new router. CHUCK NORR1S
Plusnet called again, line tests done again, not to the level they should be on ADSL2, 72hr check again..............been here before!!!! Router is ADSL2 compatible so no issue there, as I said apart from the outages I thought what I was getting was fine, possibly not but we'll see what happens over the next 3 days, all I want is a decent ping Thats rank Para Handy, just goes to show there's always someone worse off than yourself.
