Sounds good but is that just for business customers like you?.

Nope. When I was a residential customer with at one stage BT and then Talktalk in London, it is standard practice; I think it is something OFCOM expects ISPs to do.

Edit: The same principle applies when your landline is playing up.

Thanks HairyIan and Marvin, and yes, I do still get Shetland Telecom and Shetland Broadband mixed up.

Either way, I'm still of the opinion that connection is too expensive for those living outside town, and I'm still not fond on the idea of microlinks, especially given the amount of fog we get down here in the south end - or are the smaller microlinks not affected by fog and the like?

You cannae change the laws of physics, so microlinks will always be suseptable to fading and weather relaterd effects. However, usually on shorter links is either almost non-existant or very rare. Bear in mind the Shetland to Scottish Mainland Paths via Fair Isle and orkney are some of the longest in world for their height and would never be considered if it wasn't for the distance between bits of dry land.

& Mobile, if your local mast is down for more than a short outage, you should get a discount on your bill, but if you don't ask you don't normally get, and no a web voucher to spend during 1 week in september in a store south doesn't count

BT is always trumpeting about its speedy service delivery - so on checking the junk snailmail I got this week I was tickled to find a leaflet from them suggesting that "No matter how far you are from London 2012...", "you can enjoy all the Games.." and "keep track of the latest results..."

Brilliant. There's always the BBC iPlayer I suppose

We are having problems with our BT broadband. Connection keeps coming and going. All lights on our home hub box are all blue and ok. Signal is working fine at the moment. Anyone else having problems? We stay in Lerwick. Also having problems with 3G on 02. Don't know if this is connected.

How much do you guys pay for Broadband? I know it's a shed load....just wondering how big the shed was;)

I'm paying £35/m on Plusnet's unadvertised unlimited package and that includes line rental and evening & weekend calls too.

Not a bad deal, tbh.
