owdwife
f. In fact, I find that most retail staff are freindly and helpful if you're freindly to them. It's human nature. From my experience, folk I know who complain about unfreindly staff tend to be on somewhere on the unfreindly scale themselves!
piggywiggie
I agree there "treat others how you would like to be treated"A simple smile and manors towards the person serving you can make all the difference as to how they serve. And who knows that simple smile you give may actually make their day.
ShayC
I have just bought a used car from Jims Garage (Toyota), got a very good deal, best I could find in the UK, and the service was excellent.
nautim
One of my headlamp bulbs went, so I bought a replacement. We couldn't get the fitting to budge so I went to JRJ this afternoon to have the bulb fitted. They did it immediately, only took a couple of minutes and wouldn't take any money for it. And all done with a smile. I'll stick the money in a charity box instead.
mikeyboy
I bought a hoover from GRs the other weekend. As I couldn't take the mess that the cheap Chinese piece of junk from tescos used to leave behind. New hoover though more expensive works lovely. Third electrical item I have bought from GRs in the last few years and have no complaints with price or service.
Bog standard 2
Had a huge problem with my cars exhaust ran it into Shetland Exhaust and Tyre and was fitted into their busy day immediately. Chris bent over backwards to work it out for me asap and drove away with my car purring like a kitten. They did everything with a smile, great service and very reasonable bill at the end especially considering the amount of effort that went into it. Highly recommended:)

ariel
The staff in the Co-op cafe were excellent this Sunday - really cheery, helpful and polite, especially the tall young man on he counter. Much appreciated.
Speccy
The lady who works in the bag shop (up Mounthooly St) on a Saturday. Friendly, helpful, knowledgable, enthusiastic about the products. Doesn't make you feel pressurised or 'hard sold' but somehow I always spend more than I meant to, and come out with something I love. getaba1110
Local retailers who charge an extra fee if you use your debit card for under £10 really need to think again! This just puts your punters off. Yes I know all about the banks charges, but if you put off customers you could end with no bank charges i.e. no business. Why don’t you try negotiating with your bank e.g. no bank charges for transactions of £10 or less. If that fails lobby our MP & MSP and let them know your issues and concerns. Fjool
Sandwick shop charged me a fee for using my card at all, even though it was over £10! (O_O) Since this is an 'excellent service' thread, I should add that Bolts don't charge for using your card at all. Even for a few quid. The banks charge a fee as you've mentioned, there is no negotiation, that's just the way it is and always has been - until that changes why should the retailer have to foot the bill for your visit? on a small purchase the profit could actually be less than the bank charges! With the way merchant bank services generally work; the less you put through in overall card transactions the higher the percentage they charge.Plus a lot of small retailers have a dial up terminal and may have a small charge for the authorisation phone call
Speccy
To try and wrest this back on topic, the assistants in Klaize tonight were friendly, cheerful and helpful, and are giving away £10 vouchers if you spend over a certain amount (not sure exactly how much, but I got £20 for spending £145).
