stilldellin
True, that was what the digger was doing but who in their right minds would remove rock armouring in this weather ! The removal of armouring obviously undermined the runway.

stilldellin
Looking bad on runway 27 at Sumburgh this morning, a section of the concrete wall where the rock armouring was has now gone leaving the seas to wreak havoc on the end of the runway. Wind now to go easterly so will more than probably tear more debris out tonight. ;-http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3769/12169930485_7138d8845c_c.jpgRunway 27 IMG_5159 by Ronnierob, on Flickr

stilldellin
^ The runway today, with the respite in weather was undergoing urgent reinforcing during airport operational hours. The forecast I see is south-east up to storm force Friday night and Saturday morning so along with the spring tides we could well see more " changes " !http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2851/12209542093_8a358eb125_c.jpgRunway 27 IMG_5333 by Ronnierob, on Flickr anyone interested in the ongoing repairs of runway 09/27 can see a series of pictures on Flickr in a set called Sumburgh Runway 09/27 works which get updated fairly regularly. Ghostrider
^ "....and all the King's horses couldn't put humpty dumpty together again". I can't see yun ever being anything but a boddamless money pit - its getting harder and harder to believe anything short of steel piling backed up wi concrete is ever going to stand any reasonable time.
