Ironwithin
Can they not just build a huge hostel type building for these people on the waiting list? A lot of people on it can easy still stay with their parents or relations, the number is a joke.
zebedee
I'm in a HHA house. In all the houses in my scheme, I can only think of one that would receive full housing benefit. Obviously, I don't know the exact financial circumstances, but there is only one house where there isn't at least one adult working full time. But why let facts get in the way of ill-informed speculation.
tooney1
A vast majority of the waiting list has got to be people outside Shetland wanting to relocate - is there any stats on that? Or is it un-PC to ask...

tooney1
No more than how many of the doctors are local I suppose, or dentists!Which is fine, because they work! The waiting list figure is branded about a lot, but how urgent is each person on the list? Many may only have a passing desire to move here, offer little or no contribution to the economy, and could be on multiple lists etc.

Deport them? Or perhaps they shouldn't be here in the first place as they weren't born here? I think that you need to accept that the wasters in this community don't just come from south. LauraJane90
It could backfire as more people will be rushing to buy there council sorry social house as they find a mortgage is cheaper than the rent .That will mean eveing tenants You can't but 'social housing' anymore. It's on their website, but you can do a part-share with Hjaltland Housing. I would presume they likely have done similar in other areas.... Have they not also bought back individual ex council houses if ones became available at the right price, or is that an urban myth? They've refurbished and/or converted quite a few too, and built one or two "specialist" places....Is 'Banksbroo' or whatever its called theirs? I'm nearly certian Banksbroo is getting shut down? Or is that too also a lie? I heard since Dr McKenzie passed they were closing the facility since it was meant to have been built for his needs? I could be wrong, but I have heard that... --- I recently put in a housing form a couple of weeks ago and I was told by the receptionist that if I handed in my from before the 10th of October then it would be automatically added into the new points system they were making? If not it would be added a week after. So maybe that is the new waiting list idea? Either way my housing condtion is ridiculous. Filled my forms in got very few points. Perhaps I should have added the AA number and even CADSS? Then I would've gotten a house. Also heard through the grapevine that the Council pays for your dog if you have one? Is that true or not? Probably after the votes Ahh I'm sure I read that on their site... Obviously not. Apologies! laura you are wasting your time going on a waiting list the trick is to get yourself classed as homeless it does not pay to be honest .I suggest you read the article on page 7 of todays shetland times.Good luck Damnit! Knew I had done something wrong;) But seriously, I did try the homeless act once before. My older brother moved back home, I was nearly 18. My mam went in on it too. But the council turned around and said I was too vulnerable to be allocated a room in the Girls Housing. So had to go back to mammys' 3 bedroomed house with my brother and sister and parents.. Thankfully big bro decided he'd sleep on the couch and keep me quiet;). Still I find that really wrong especially when I know of plenty of people who get houses that certainly do not need them or to be honest (might not be fair) deserve a house and that bit of freedom from your parents! Thanks for the luck! I shall get my paper when the husband arrives home!
Kavi Ugl
A vast majority of the waiting list has got to be people outside Shetland wanting to relocate - is there any stats on that? Or is it un-PC to ask... Oh I'm pretty sure there will be a list/statistic on it but because they don't want us to know it'll be classed as "confidential" I don't know this officially but apparantly there's even a payment towards owning a pet. If it's not true, then I stand to be corrected but either way how on earth can folks on benefits be able to afford owing one of those pitbull dogs etc??. I'm actually all in favour of supporting people who are genuinely unable to work due to illness etc but the system is a bad joke now. I haven't read this week's STimes yet but I get the feeling I don't want to....
Ghostrider
Never mind about all the getting on the waiting list, and waiting to get a place so you can get off it. Look on the bright?!? side, the SIC are pretty naff landlords to have anyway, so you avoid all the stress and hassle of that. I could make a long list of their "faults", but seeing as most as still "live" issues, it wouldn't be fair to slag them off on those until they are finally resolved - no point in not letting them become as "good" stories as they possibly can after all. That said, when it comes to having questions answered, prepare to have them battering the crap out of your door every couple of days when they want to know something from you, but if you want to know something from them be prepared to wait at least one month, probably two, and in some cases an eternity, I still have one query outstanding with them from August 2005. Oh, and when you finally do get a reply, that it'll be only partial at best and much of it largely irrelevant, necessitating going through the whole performance all over again, and probably again, ad infinitum....
